Ireland's Official Top 50 biggest vinyl albums of 2020 so far

Homegrown releases from The Scratch and David Keenan have shifted lots of copies on the format.

Vinyl sales are on the up in Ireland, with an eclectic mix of heritage classics, homegrown 2020 releases and global female artists making up the best sellers of the year so far.

Sales on the format are up 11% year-on-year, with a 66% increase of new releases featuring on the Top 50 of 2020's first six months compared to the same period last year.

With the revived format going from strength-to-strength across the world, new record fans are often looking to add staple classics to their collection. With that, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours leads Ireland's year-to-date list, plus there are other all time greats in the Top 10 including Queen's Greatest Hits (3), Bob Marley and the Wailers' Legend (4) and Prince and the Revolution's Purple Rain (6).

Some big 2019 releases are still proving popular this year too. Harry Styles' chart topper Fine Line, released in December 2019 has had over half of its overall vinyl sales in 2020, and ranks as the year's second best seller so far. Billie Eilish's Number 1 album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? also lands in the Top 5 in fifth.

The biggest album first released in 2020 on vinyl is Dua Lipa's chart-topping second studio album Future Nostalgia, which was available in black, pink, yellow and picture disc formats and ranks at 13 overall. Fellow chart topper MTV Unplugged from Liam Gallagher lands at 19, while Ireland's fastest-selling album on the format in 2020 so far Homegrown by Neil Young is at 27, closely followed by Tame Impala's The Slow Rush at 28.

Several Irish acts have also proved their popular on wax. David Keenan's Top 10 charting debut album A Beginner's Guide To Bravery is at Number 31, Hudson Taylor's Number 1 album Loving Everywhere I Go is close behind at Number 33, and The Scratch's debut album Couldn't Give A Rats is at Number 34.

More big 2020 releases on the rundown include Gerry Cinnamon's The Bonny at 45, The 1975's highest-charting album ever in Ireland Notes on a Conditional Form at 46, and Lady Gaga's Number 1 album Chromatica at 48.
