Ireland's Official Top 50 biggest albums of 2021 so far

Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Bieber and The Weeknd have the biggest albums so far released in 2021.

There’s no sour taste in Olivia Rodrigo’s mouth as the 18-year-old rising star claims Ireland’s biggest album of 2021 so far.

The Californian’s debut record SOUR is the most popular album of the past six months, racking up the most album streams from the Irish public. SOUR has so far spent six consecutive weeks on top the Official Irish Albums Chart, scored the longest consecutive reign at Number 1 for a female artist since Adele’s 25, and has spawned five Top 10 singles, including two Number 1 hits.

The most purchased album on physical formats in 2021 to date is Dermot Kennedy’s Without Fear, which ranks in second with all metrics combined. First released in October 2019, Without Fear was the biggest album of 2020, has not left the Official Irish Albums Chart Top 10 since release, and is the longest-running Number 1 debut album of the millennium having spent 27 non-consecutive weeks at the helm.

2020 chart stalwart Future Nostalgia from Dua Lipa continues to appeal as the year’s third biggest album so far, December 2019 release Fine Line from Harry Styles ranks fourth, and Fleetwood Mac retrospective 50 Years – Don’t Stop sits in fifth.

Justin Bieber claims the biggest album released in 2021 so far by a male act with his chart-topping album Justice at Number 7, while fellow Canadian artist The Weeknd is at Number 14 with his new greatest hits The Highlights.

Late 2020 releases continuing to perform well include Taylor Swift’s Evermore (13), Positions from Ariana Grande (23), Miley Cyrus’ Plastic Hearts (31) and Confetti by Little Mix (36).

J. Cole’s The Off-Season – which earned the biggest opening week of 2021’s first six months among male solo artists – lands in 38th, and in response to the news of her conservatorship court case, Britney Spears’ The Singles Collection is the 45th most consumed album of the year so far as fans rally behind the #FreeBritney movement.
