Hozier on course for highest new albums entry

Hozier is on course for this week’s highest new entry on the Official Albums Chart.

The Irish musician – real name Andrew Hozier-Byrne - lands at Number 4 on today’s Chart Update with his self-titled debut.

The record includes the single Take Me To Church, which last month climbed into the UK Top 40 seven weeks after its release and has so far peaked at Number 26 on the Official Singles Chart.

Meanwhile, George Ezra continues to lead the tally with his debut album Wanted On Voyage. The record climbed to Number 1 last week after 14 weeks in the Top 10.

Ed Sheeran’s X climbs a place to Number 2 on today’s Update, Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour is at 3, and Barbra Streisand’s duets album Partners completes the Top 5.

New entries

In addition to Hozier, there are a massive 13 new entries on today’s album chart Update.

Canadian musician Caribou aka Dan Snaith is on course for his highest-charting UK album to date with Our Love at Number 7, and Johnny Marr’s second solo album Playland enters at 8.

UK electro-house duo Gorgon City start at Number 9 with Sirens, and country trio Lady Antebellum could score their fourth UK Top 10 album this Sunday with 747, which is currently at Number 10.

Further down the chart, Bryan Adams’ 11th studio album and first in six years Tracks Of My Years starts at Number 11, UB40 singer Ali Campbell enters at 13 with Silhouette, and Lower Than Atlantis look set for a Top 20 placing with their self-titled LP (14).

Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks is on course to score her seventh Top 40 solo album this Sunday with 24 Karat: Songs From The Vault (16), and Flying Lotus are set for their highest-charting album yet this Sunday with You’re Dead. The record is at Number 18 in today’s Update, beating their previous peak of 34 with 2012’s Until The Quiet Times.

Elsewhere, Jamie Cullum’s seventh album Interlude (19) Jackson Browne’s Standing In The Breach (23), Weezer’s Everything Will Be Alright (25), and Irish folk duo Foster and Allen’s Gold & Silver Days (37) are all set to enter the Top 40 this weekend.
