Hit songwriter Max Martin honoured with the 'Nobel Prize for music'

Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears are among the singers who thank the producer in a new video.

One of the - if not THE - greatest pop songwriters of all time Max Martin is being honoured for his contribution to music.

The Swedish writer/producer, who is responsible for this incredible list of pop songs, is being awarded the Polar Music Prize - often referred to as 'the Nobel Prize for music' on - June 16 in Stockholm.

Also receiving the prestigious music accolade at the ceremony in the city's Concert Hall is mezzo-soprano opera singer Cecilia Bartoli.

Max said of the honour: "If you can somehow influence popular culture, shape it in some way, when something becomes bigger than just a song, that’s the greatest thing for me…this is what I love about music. You can reach so many people."

Originally a member of Swedish glam-metal band It's Alive, Max rose to international prominence when he co-wrote and produced Britney Spears' ...Baby One More Time in 1999.

Since then, he has landed over 50Top 10 hits and more than 20 US Number 1s - the third-most chart-toppers in the country behind Paul McCartney and John Lennon 

Congratulating Max, Britney said: “I think you’re a genius, it’s such an honour to work with you…you’ve been a part of my career from the beginning,” while Justin Timberlake added: “No one deserves it more. You are a master."

The Polar Music Prize was established in 1992 to recognise excellence in the world of music. The first Laureates were Paul McCartney and Baltic States, while other previous winners include Bob Dylan, Ray Charles and Patti Smith.
