Gotye smashes the half a million sales mark in fourth week at Number 1

Gotye FT Kimbra’s smash hit Somebody That I Used To Know this week reaches half a million UK sales and makes it a fourth (non-consecutive) week at the top.

Gotye, the Australian-Belgian singer/songwriter who has had runaway success across the globe with Somebody That I Used To Know FT Kimbra, this week becomes the first artist of the year in the UK to cross the 500,000 unit sales mark, ending the week with over 558,000 copies sold since release.

The track is in its tenth week in the chart, and celebrates its fourth non-consecutive week at Number 1, fending off competition from Emeli Sande’s Next To Me which climbs one place to Number 2 today, and Nicki Minaj’s Starships (3) which has sky rocketed up through the Official Singles Chart across the last four weeks, up two places this week to land at Number 3.

New entries

StooShe are this week’s highest new entry-the all-new London girl band who were reportedly turned down by Simon Cowell for being ‘too risque’, have scored their debut Top 5 single today with Love Me. The single, which was produced by Future Cut features Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy who previously enjoyed a huge solo hit with his Bruno Mars collaboration Billionaire

StooShe have this week announced their first headline show at London’s Proud Cabaret, Tower Hill on April 17.

Tinchy Stryder and Pixie Lott are the week’s second highest new entry, their track Bright Lights which is the third single from Tinchy’s forthcoming album Full Tank (out tomorrow), finishes the week at Number 7.

Marcus Collins, the first of the X Factor 2011 graduates to release solo material this year, lands a debut Top 10 single today. Marcus’s cover of the White StripesSeven Nation Army is at Number 9.

The only other new singles entry today is Taio Cruz FT Flo Rida’s Hangover (34).
