Five new Irish artists leading a new wave of pop music

Last month we announced some major changes to the Official Irish Singles Chart, including that music videos will now count towards weekly rundown, making our charts - and the way they're counted - more comprehensive than ever.

To celebrate this landmark, we're rounding up the most exciting new Irish talents that have also produced some eye-catching visuals in recent months. Have a listen to five Irish acts we're tipping for future success below, and watch their fab videos...

Erica-Cody

It might be early days for Dublin-based singer-songwriter Erica, but she's been writing songs since she was seven. Now 21, her years of experience are felt across complex R&B-electronica hit Good Intentions. Her debut single, Addicted - a '90s tinged soul-pop number - is also well worth checking out. Erica's five-track EP Leoness is released later this year.

Sequence

Amid an influx of new Irish hip-hop, rapper Sequence is releasing new material so fast, we can barely keep up. Ahead of new EP Take Time released on July 7, the rising Irish star has dropped the video for new track Cry; and it's a drama soaked epic with a suitably striking video to match.

Soulé

We couldn't get enough of Soulé when she dropped her Good Life video last year. In fact, so positive was the reaction to this sunny, carefree, R&B-pop bop that she's being billed as the leader of a new generation of Irish music once dominated by guitar-led rock pop. "In terms of rock bands and singer-songwriters, Ireland has already had an awesome scene," she said in a recent interview with Irish Examiner. "All we are doing is bringing another element." 

She's taken a break from releasing music so far in 2018, yet, she's touring plenty.

Kestine

Cork-based rapper and musician Kestine stunned his fans when he released deeply personal track Heartache at the tail end of last year. The song, he says is about "laughing through pain" and being able to "stand so bold" in the face of adversity. It has a beautiful video to pair. Keep an eye out for more new music from this refreshing Irish artist soon.

Saint Sister

Irish pop-folk duo Saint Sister have received plenty of column inches since they dropped their first music videos earlier this year, probably because they intriguingly nickname their musical style 'atmosfolk'.

After being one of Ireland's premiere buzz bands since 2014, their debut album is finally due out this October. The record will move into more poppy territory - check latest single Twin Peaks above (yes, inspired by the TV show).
