Before we choose this year's UK Eurovision entry on the BBC's new selection show next month, a former winner will be taking to the stage to show the contestants how it's done.

Katrina of (the now-defunct) Katrina & The Waves will be performing her winning song Love Shine A Light on Eurovision: You Decide; an X Factor-style show that will see the public vote for who the UK will put through to this year's contest in Sweden.

"I can’t believe it has been nearly 20 years since we won the contest back in 1997, it’s definitely time for another UK win in the competition!" Katrina said. "Eurovision is a very special event and is something that stays with you forever - it’s always an honour to perform to such passionate crowds and it is a thrill to be doing it again at the UK National Final."

Katrina & The Waves are the last British act to win the competition, which took place in Dublin in 1997 year, winning by a landslide victory. The song went on to peak at Number 3 on the Official Singles Chart.

As well as Katrina Eurovision 2016 co-host Måns Zelmerlöw will sing his winning song from last year’s contest, Heroes.

He said: "Back in Sweden we have a show called Melodienfestival and the winner of that goes on to perform at Eurovision; I qualified via that process last year so I have a good idea of how everyone will be feeling on that stage. It’s certainly nerve-wracking but very exciting too knowing that you could be heading to Eurovision! I am going to be wishing them all the very best of luck."

Six acts and songs have been shortlisted for this year's Eurovision: You Decide following an nationwide talent search last year. The show airs live on BBC Four on February 26, with the contestants being announced on BBC Radio 2 on February 22.

The last time the UK's entry went to a public vote was in 2010 on Eurovision: Your Country Needs You. The winning act was Josh Dubovie's That Sounds Good To Me. Helmed by '80s pop super producers Pete Waterman, Mike Stock and Steve Crosby, the song finished last place, securing just 10 points.
