Football anthem 3 Lions is poised to return to the Official Singles Chart Top 40 this week following England's strong start to Euro 2020.
The track, released 25 years ago this month, sits at Number 19 in today's Official Chart Update (June 14) following England's 1-0 victory over Croatia yesterday.
3 Lions last hit Number 1 in 2018 during England's spell in the World Cup. Matching the drama of England's performance in the competition, where we crashed out in the semi-finals, the track made history again the very next week when it saw the biggest ever drop from Number 1, falling 96 places.
Despite that, 3 Lions holds the record for being the only song to claim four spells at Number 1 with the same artist line-up; the original 1996 version had two one-week stints in 1996, while the 1998 re-work had one three-week spell at the top. To mark its 25th anniversary, a limited edition red vinyl single was released on June 4.
To date, the original 3 Lions has notched up 1.2 million chart sales - including 938,000 pure sales and 39 million streams.
With England due to play Scotland this Friday (June 18), and Czech Republic next Tuesday (June 22), there's a chance 3 Lions could climb even higher - if England can keep up their run of form...
