Ellie Goulding has returned to the top of the Official Albums Chart today with her second full-length, Halcyon.

The British singer/songwriter, who has been nominated for three awards at next month’s BRITs, has reclaimed her chart crown from Bruce Springsteen’s High Hopes (Number 2 today), which ended her two week run at Number 1 last Sunday.

However, Ellie finished this week a cool 5,000 copies ahead of The Boss’s latest effort, according to the Official Charts Company’s sales data. Halcyon is also the biggest selling artist album of 2014 so far.

Beyonce holds firm at Number 3 with her self-titled album, while Sophie Ellis-Bextor scores this week’s highest new entry with Wanderlust (Number 4). The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant has returned to the dark, cinematic  soundscapes of her former band, Theaudience, for her fifth solo outing. Released on her own EBGB’s label, Wanderlust has become Sophie’s highest charting album since 2001’s Read  My Lips, which peaked at Number 2.

Avicii completes this week’s Top 5 with True, which climbs one place to Number 5.

New Entries

There are three other new entries on this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 40:

US rockers Warpaint are new in at Number 9 with their self-titled second album, while Scottish post-rock outfit Mogwai also debut inside the Top 10. The band’s eighth studio album, The Rave Tapes, enters at Number 10, giving the Glasgow quartet the highest charting album of their career to date.

And finally, Mike & The Mechanics’ new Best Of collection, The Singles - 1986-2014, debuts at Number 18.
