Ed Sheeran has taken an early lead on this week’s Official Singles Chart with his latest track Bloodstream.

The song leaps from 26 to Number 1 on today’s Official Chart Update after being re-worked for its single release with Rudimental.

If it holds on to its position, it will mark Sheeran’s third chart-topping single following Sing and Thinking Out Loud. Meanwhile, Rudimental have previously topped the chart on two occasions, with their debut single Feel The Love (2012) and Waiting All Night (2013).

Behind them at Number 2 by just 3,000 sales is last week’s Number 1 Hold My Hand by Jess Glynne, and James Bay’s Hold Back The River is at 3.

Rounding off the Top 5 are King by Years & Years (4) and Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney’s FourFiveSeconds (5).

New entries and high climbers

Following her appearance on last week’s semi-final of The Voice UK, Sia vaults 15 places to Number 8, while this week’s highest new entry looks set to come from Dappy, who starts at Number 12 with Beautiful Me. The N-Dubz star previously topped the chart in 2011 with his debut solo single No Regrets.

Elsewhere, Rihanna climbs 13 places to Number 16 with Bitch Better Have My Money, and former X Factor contestant Luke Friend lands at 27 with his debut single Hole In My Heart.

Finally, Olly Murs enters the Top 40 at 31 with Seasons, and Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson’s Trouble makes its Top 40 debut at 35.
