Ed Sheeran and Elton John’s new single Merry Christmas claims the highest new entry on this week’s Official Irish Singles Chart, debuting at Number 3.

The pair’s new festive jingle wasn’t quite powerful enough to outperform Adele, whose current leader Easy On Me reigns supreme for a seventh non-consecutive week at the summit.

Rising Nashville star Gayle climbs to Number 2 with her breakthrough smash abcdefu, while three Christmas classics leap into this week’s Top 10, led by Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You, which climbs six spots to Number 5.

Others in the Top 10 are Last Christmas by Wham!, up seven rungs to 6, and The Pogues’ Fairytale Of New York ft. Kirsty MacColl up 10 places to 7.

Olivia Rodrigo’s former Number 1 Good 4 U returns to the chart this week, landing at Number 10 following the announcement of her 2022 US and European tour, which includes two dates in Ireland. Two more of Rodrigo’s hits, Drivers License (19) and Traitor (24), also enjoy a massive uplift.

Just outside the Top 10, Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree, zooms 12 spots to Number 11.

Christmas dominates this week’s Official Irish Singles Chart, with a further 16 holiday songs in the Top 50.

Breaking through the festivities are two more new entries this week: I Hate U by US neo-soul singer SZA lands at Number 27, while posthumous Juice Wrld collaboration with Justin Bieber Wandered To LA opens at Number 45.
