Dua Lipa has announced that her first original song from the Barbie soundtrack will be arriving this week.

As previously reported here, Dua has joined the cast of Greta Gerwig's forthcoming blockbuster (starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken) as a Mermaid (!) but she will also be supplying the bops to the film's original soundtrack, Barbie: The Album.

In a video posted to her socials today, Dua announced that "this Barbie has a song coming," with the song - titled Dance The Night - will be dropping this Friday at 12pm UK time.

And from little we can hear from Dance The Night on the clip, it sounds like Dua is returning to the disco-soaked sonics of Future Nostalgia...with a plastic sheen, of course.

Barbie comes from acclaimed director Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird), who wrote the script with her partner, Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story). Little to nothing is known about the actual plot of the film, but a summary goes as follows:

"After being expelled from "Barbieland" for being a less-than-perfect doll, Barbie sets off for the human world to find true happiness."

This will also be Dua's first new music since the highly successful Future Nostalgia era has come to an end. But you can never keep a good pop girl down, and Dua is still hard at work on her third studio album, and has said that for the follow-up to Future Nostalgia, she's taking a bit of a sonic pivot.

Dance The Night from Barbie: The Album drops May 23.

Barbie arrives in cinemas July 21.
