Drake's One Dance leads very close race with a 15th week at Number 1 in his sights

Plus, new entries from 5 Seconds Of Summer, Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Snakehips feat Zayn.

Is there any stopping Drake's One Dance? The Canadian rapper's huge hit is currently out in front in the race to top this week's Official Singles Chart, edging ever closer to chart history. However: he's got some competition.

Just 373 combined chart sales separate Drake from the song at Number 3 today, Calum Scott's Dancing On My Own, up one, with Perfect Strangers, from Jonas Blue feat. JP Cooper, also making a strong contest, up one to Number 2.

If Drake manages to hang on, he'll log 15 consecutive weeks at Number 1, matching Wet Wet Wet's epic stint at the top with Love Is All Around from 1994, and putting him just a week away from equalling Bryan Adams' record-breaking run of 16 straight weeks 25 years ago. Take a look at the longest stints at Number 1 in chart history.

At Number 4, Chainsmokers feat. Daya slips two spots with Don't Let Me Down and Clean Bandit feat. Louisa Johnson go back up three places to round off the Top 5 with Tears.

New entries and high climbers

Shawn Mendes looks set to break into the Top 10 with Treat You Better advancing four to Number 9, while 5 Seconds Of Summer are on course for a sixth Top 40 hit – Girls Talk Boys is new at 12.

Katy Perry is eyeing a 20th UK Top 40 hit with new song Rise – the star surprise-released the track on Friday, and it's at Number 13 on today's Update.

MO's Final Song is up eight slots to land at Number 20, while Britney Spears is on track for a 31st Top 40 hit with Make Me feat. rapper G-Eazy starting at Number 22.

Christine and the Queens' Tilted climbs 11 places to a midweek position of 29, and Cruel, a new collaboration from Snakehips and former One Direction star Zayn, goes in at 36. MK & Becky Hill's Piece Of Me bounces back two places to round off the Update Top 40, at 40.

Drake is on course to make the history this year. Especially in UK

Hope this isn't the case! Hopefully anyone else can beat him! This streaming influence must stop, as like this is equalling the amount of time Bohemian Rhapsody was at the top, even though the sales alone put this song at number 11.

With more than one possible song challenging him he has more chance of dropping, it seems. On the flip-side, Perfect Strangers and Dancing On my Own don't seem like no.1 hits.

If he breaks the record, the UK Singles Chart will be a joke.

The cult of Drake doing their repeated mission to keep him at the top again. But can even he stop KATY PERRY. I think not this time as she's too popular and with the Olympics close by deny him a bit of history with fellow Canadian Bryan Adams. Oh yes and his reign in the US was much shorter than here because the US is far more sensible at changing tastes.

Getting bored of seeing Drake at No.1 every week, on both the UK charts and the US charts, time for his reign to come to an end. I hope Britney can chart higher with her song, I know it's falling down the iTunes chart but I'm hoping there's some way it can at least hit the top 20.

Before Britney Spears or Katy Perry comes at the top of the chart, Drake would make it 15th Week to match the UK record chart breaking. But he can't go over 15week at No.1
