Drake's One Dance is officially the most streamed song ever on Spotify

There's a new leader in town.

Spotify have today (October 18) announced which song is their most played worldwide on the platform.

Drake's One Dance, featuring Wizkid and Kyla, is now the most listened to track on the service, having accumulated 880 million streams worldwide since its premiere in April 2016.

One Dance overtakes Major Lazer's Lean On, which was the most streamed song globally on Spotify in 2015.

One factor for One Dance's streaming popularity may in part be due to its lack of a music video, pushing listeners to streaming services rather than free platforms such as YouTube. This could have also helped the song to become the fastest to clock up 100 million streams in the UK, which Official Charts announced it had achieved this summer.

While Major Lazer's Lean On can still hold onto the distinction of being the most streamed single by a group, Drake's One Dance is the most played by any solo artist on the planet, ahead of other heavy hitters like Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran.

One Dance ruled the Official Singles Chart for 15 weeks after hitting Number 1 during its second week of release in April.

It is the second-longest reigning Number 1 in history, tied with Wet Wet Wet's Love Is All Around. Everything I Do (I Do It For You) by fellow Canadian Bryan Adams holds the longest consecutive tenure with 16 weeks. Click here to check out Drake's full Official UK Chart history
