Despicable Me 2 has ended The Wolverine’s one week stand at Number 1 on the Official Video Chart.

He’s a hard-as-nails mutant with retractable adamantium claws, but The Wolverine has proven no match for The Minions! Indeed, Despicable Me 2 has knocked the home release of Marvel Comics’ latest film adaptation off the top of the Official Video Chart, and has sold nearly 619,000 copies during its first week of release.

The sequel to 2010’s hugely successful Despicable Me sees Steve Carell (The American Office, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Crazy, Stupid, Love) return as criminal-mastermind-turned-doting-father, Gru, and Russell Brand back as his hearing-impaired evil scientist, Dr. Nefario. Meanwhile Despicable Me’s co-director Pierre Coffin reprises his role as The Minions Bob and Stuart, as well as lending his voice to a reported 897 of the other little yellow guys.

In addition to topping the Official Video Chart, Despicable Me 2 also claims pole position on the Official DVD and Official Blu-ray format charts, as well as the Official Children’s Video genre chart.

The Wold’s End (starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and directed by Edgar Wright) is new in at Number 2 on this week’s Official Video Chart, while Monsters University is down one place to Number 3.

This week’s Top 5 is completed by action comedy Red 2 and buddy-cop comedy The Heat, which debut at Number 4 and 5, respectively.

New Entries

In addition to Despicable Me 2 (Number 1), The World’s End (2), Red 2 (4) and The Heat (5), there are four other new entries on this week’s Official Video Chart.

Breaking Bad – The Final Season is new in at Number 11, while Breaking Bad The Complete Series follows at Number 20. The Despicable Me 1 & 2 boxed set debuts at 13, Sons Of Anarchy Season 5 enters at 35.
