David Guetta could be on course for his fifth UK Number 1 single this weekend.

The French superstar DJ’s latest track Lovers On The Sun FT Sam Martin is currently leading the race to the top on today’s Official Singles Chart Update. However he faces a last minute challenge from US singer Taylor Swift.

Taylor’s new single, Shake It Off has shot straight into the Top 10 after just 24 hours on sale. The track, which is the first single to be lifted from her upcoming fifth studio album, 1989, is at Number 6 on today’s Update, and it is expected to continue to climb as the week goes on.

Tune into BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart show with Jameela Jamil this Sunday (August 24) from 4pm to find out who finishes the week on top. The full Official Singles Chart Top 100 will be published on www.officialcharts.com at 7pm that evening.

Meanwhile, after two weeks at Number 1, Am I Wrong by Nico And Vinz slides one place to Number 2, while Magic!’s former chart topper, Rude, is also down one to Number 3.

My Head Is A Jungle by German techno producer Wankelmut and Australian singer/songwriter Emma Louise climbs 186 places to Number 4 today, while Union J look set to claim their highest charting single to date with Tonight (We Live Forever) (Number 5). The boyband’s previous chart best was their 2013 debut single, Carry You, which peaked at Number 6.

New Entries

US band Saint Motel are on course to make their UK Top 40 debut this weekend with new single, My Type (Number 18 today).

Stranger, Chris Malinchak’s collaboration with Mikky Ekko is new in at Number 20.  US rapper TI enters at 29 with No Mediocre FT Iggy Azalea, while British rock duo Royal Blood are on track for their first Top 40 single with Figure It Out (35).

And finally, Sir Cliff Richard could return to the Top 40 this weekend. A social media campaign to get the legendary British singer back into the Official Singles Chart has been organised by fans to show their support in the wake of last week’s sex abuse allegations. Cliff’s 1992 Number 7 hit, I Still Believe In You, is at Number 43 today. According to the Official Charts Company’ssales data, it is less than 500 copies off a Top 40 placing at this midway stage.

The Official Singles Chart Update Top 40 is as follows. The Official Singles Chart Top 100 will be posted in full, here, on Sunday at 7pm.
