Nicole Scherzinger leads an incredibly tight race on the Official Singles Chart this week as new single Boomerang could be on course to bring home a second solo Number 1 for the former Pussycat Dolls’ frontwoman.

Following two weeks at the top for Justin Timberlake’s Mirrors, X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger this week steps in to challenge the US superstar in the bid for the Official Singles Chart summit. However, with Boomerang ahead by only 1,300 copies, it could be all change before Sunday.

If the Will.I.Am-produced track holds on, it will be Nicole’s second solo Number 1 following the success of 2011’s Don’t Hold Your Breath. Boomerang is taken from her as-yet untitled forthcoming second studio album.

Current chart topper Mirrors slips one place to Number 2, while Bruno MarsWhen I Was Your Man is at 3. Pink’s Just Give Me A Reason, featuring Nate Ruess is a non-mover so far this week at 4, and London quartet Bastille’s Pompeii completes the Official Singles Chart Update Top 5.

New entries and high climbers

London rapper K Koke is the only other new entry in the midweek Top 40, Lay Down Your Weapons FT Rita Ora is on course for an Official Top 20 debut at Number 12.

The week’s biggest climbers to date come courtesy of Nelly’s new single Hey Porsche (23), up 88 places, while American Idol runner up Blake Lewis storms 140 places to enter the Top 40 at Number 31 with Your Touch, taken from forthcoming album Portrait Of A Chameleon. Plus Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years also bounds 67 places to Number 35, the song also features in the newly released DVD and Blu-ray, Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2.
