BTS's rise to global stardom hasn't been as fast as you might think. The seven-piece South Korean group launched in 2013 to huge success in their homeland, and despite recently claiming the the title as the world's biggest boy band, their success on the UK's Official Charts - and charts across the world - is still growing.
BTS first appeared on the Official UK Charts in 2016, when their second album Wings landed at Number 62. In 2017, DNA reached Number 90 on the Official Singles Chart, and its parent album Love Yourself: Her debuted at 14, making their first big UK breakthrough. The feat is even more impressive when you consider most of their music is performed in Korean.
Since then, they've scored a Top 40 single with Idol, and the three albums from their Love Yourself series reached the Top 20. This week, BTS are set to take things up a gear: Map of the Soul: Persona is set to earn the group their first Number 1 album in the UK, while its spin-off single Boy With Luv ft. Halsey could become their first Top 10 track.
Their seriously dedicated UK A.R.M.Y (which stands for Adorable Representative MC for Youth) have notched up some 370 million plays of their tracks across all their singles, EPs and albums. Their most streamed (on both audio and video metrics) song is DNA, on 24 million UK streams. The song is widely credited as the group's global breakthrough hit, entering the charts across the world.
Placing second is the hip hop-lite Mic Drop, a song inspired by Barack Obama's mic drop at his last White House Correspondents' Dinner in 2016. It narrowly missed the Top 40 in the UK, topping out at Number 46, but has notched up 16.7 million streams in the UK so far, boosted by a remix by Steve Aoki featuring rapper Desiigner.
Pop-leaning Fake Love, released in May 2018, is fourth on 15.5 million, popular early release Dope from 2015 ranks fourth on 15.1 million plays (it's their second most viewed video with 8.1 million watches), and Idol is in fifth with 15 million streams. The lead single from 2018's Love Yourself: Answer album was their first to reach the UK Top 40, landing at Number 21, thanks in part to a remix featuring Nicki Minaj.
Just outside the Top 5 in sixth place is Blood, Sweat & Tears, taken from their second album Wings. The EDM-laced banger, which has a stunning six minute visual to accompany it, didn't chart in the UK but has racked up 14.9 million streams regardless.
