BBC drama Bodyguard is this week’s biggest new DVD release

Bodyguard gripped viewers on BBC One last month, and now the home entertainment release of the heart-pumping series is proving popular also.

The highest rated TV drama since 2011, Bodyguard stars Keeley Hawes and Richard Madden as the UK’s Home Secretary Julia Montague, and Sergeant David Budd, the war veteran assigned to protect her, despite him clashing with all of her political views.

With sales of 5,300 after three days on sale, Bodyguard opens at Number 5, and is expected to claim the highest new entry in Sunday’s full Official Video Chart.

Elsewhere in today’s Official Video Chart Update, Solo: A Star Wars Story is set for a second week at Number 1, over 14,000 units ahead of Deadpool 2 in the runner-up slot.

New entries and high climbers

Canine cop comedy Show Dogs starring Will Arnett is woofing to a Top 10 finish at 7, while Season 5 - Volume 1 of Vikings is right behind, occupying Number 8. The Complete Tenth Season of Supernatural is also Top 10 bound, currently at 10.

Season 5 of Marvel’s Agents of Shield continues the wave of big TV box sets as new entries, landing at 12 at the midweek stage, plus the BBC's 1981 adaptation of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy returns to the chart at 19 following a DVD & Blu-ray remaster.

World War II drama The Captain arrives at Number 24, and finally, UFO starring Gillian Anderson flies to Number 30.
