Fans of American Idol in the UK will now be able to get their fix of the show following the announcement of a first-of-its-kind deal.

Episodes of the re-launched music competition will air on Amazon Prime Video in the UK two days after they go out in the US.

Jamie Lynn, head of sales and distribution, EMEA for FremantleMedia International, said: "To see one of the biggest entertainment shows on a streaming service is a not only a first, but testament to the appetite for American Idol and will be a whole new way to reach fans of the series.

"American Idol has launched to fantastic ratings on ABC in the US and we are excited that Amazon Prime Video will become the exclusive home of the new series in the UK with this unique deal."

Several deals beyond the UK with traditional broadcasters have also been signed, including Australia's Foxtel, CTV in Canada and Canal Sony in Latin America. In total, the rebooted American Idol will go out in 150 territories worldwide.

The revamped show includes a brand new judging panel, with Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie on this year's panel. The programme has had some unexpected guest judges over the years, including one Victoria Beckham, who made a brief appearance in series nine.
