Charlie Puth has just released his new single Light Switch after months (and months and months) of teasing, and apparently there's a whole album to follow it.
And what's more, the singer-songwriter revealed that after scrapping material previously written and recorded in 2019, his new, self-titled third album was essentially made via TikTok during pandemic lockdowns in 2020 and 2021.
“I’ve made most of it on TikTok," he told Zane Lowe on his Apple Music Beats 1 show. "My goal for this album is for everybody to know every song title before it comes out. I love the fact that Light Switch has been teased for months, and people are making bootlegs of it.”
Throughout the last year or so, Charlie has really found a social media niche, putting his talents as a songwriter and composer to use in quarantine. There are quite literally dozens of new song ideas that he's floated around on TikTok, one of them, of course becoming Light Switch - his new single.
If it is indeed released this year, Charlie would be the first full-length project from the multi-hyphenate star since 2018's Voicenotes. That records, with hints of Duran Duran and George Michael funk influences, birthed two UK Top 10 hits for Charlie; Attention and How Long, both peaked at Number 9.
Voicenotes itself became his highest-peaking album in the UK, upon release, charting at Number 4. See Charlie Puth's full Official Charts history here.
