Pixie Lott goes head to head with The Saturdays on Singles; Example looks to add Albums crown to his two Singles Number Ones

08/09/2011

Pixie Lott is on course to keep The Saturdays from the top spot in the Official Singles Chart this Sunday, according to today's Official Charts Update.

An all-female battle for the top spot in the Official Singles Chart is underway, with Pixie Lott leading the race to claim her third Official Number One Single with new release All About Tonight.  Coming in the wake of previous Number Ones including Mama Do and Boys & Girls, the Bromley-born singer is on course to make it a hat trick this Sunday, while The Saturdays' All Fired Up is currently residing at Number Two in the Update.

With Maroon 5 Ft. Christina Aguilera looking to hold on to their Top Three position, former X Factor winner Leona Lewis (& Avicii) enters the Update at Four with new entry Collide, taken from her forthcoming studio album Glassheart.

The Official Singles Update Top Five is currently rounded off by Example, high on momentum from scoring last week's Official Number One Single with Stay Awake. Example is also continuing his summer 2011 reign on the Official Charts, with new album Playing In The Shadows looking on course to zip straight in at Number One on Sunday.

The highest climber in today's Official Singles Update Top 20 is Adele's Someone Like You, climbing from 27 to 14, no doubt buoyed by being the audition song choice for early X Factor favourite Jade Richards from Fife, whose performance captured the hearts of the UK on the show last Saturday night.

In other news - despite not scooping the prestigious Mercury Music Prize last night, Adele's 21 has today smashed Official Charts history, becoming the first album in history to rack up 3 million sales within one calendar year. This also makes it the third best selling album by a British female of all time - it is also set to jump back up two places to Number Two this Sunday, marking its 33rd consecutive week in the Official Albums Chart Top Five. David Guetta's Nothing But The Beat is at Three in the Update, with former chart topper I'm With You by the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Four, while Will Young's Echoes completes the Top Five Official Albums Update.

The Beatles' 1 album received its long-awaited digital release this week, re-entering the Albums Update at Number Seven. Originally released back in November 2000, the eight-times platinum collection of singles had previously only been available in physical format, shifting copies of nearly 2.9m to date in the UK, 30m worldwide.

The Fab Four are on course to be joined by fellow newcomers Doris Day's My Heart (8) and Chris Rea's Santo Spirito Blues (9) this weekend.
