N-Dubz' Dappy on course for debut solo Number One; Kasabian heading for third Number One album

21/09/2011

N-Dubz star Dappy is on course to score his debut solo Number One single this weekend, whilst Kasabian head for the hat-trick in the Official Albums Chart, according to today's Official Chart Update.

Camden hip-hop artist Dappy looks set to give N-Dubz bandmate,Tulisa Contostavlos, a run for her money in the race for solo career success. Whilst Tulisa has already captured the attention of the nation this summer by setting up camp on the all-star 2011 X Factor judging panel, Dappy has this week released debut solo single No Regrets, which is on course to knock X Factor finalists One Direction (2) from the top spot in the Official Singles Chart this weekend. This would also mark the 11th British act in a row to claim the Number One spot in an impressive run of form for British music.

Maroon 5 Ft. Christina Aguilera's Moves Like Jagger (3) stays put for its sixth consecutive week in the Top Three, they are joined by new releases from Jason Derulo - It Girl (4), and singer/songwriter James Morrison returns with I Won’t Let You Go, the first single taken from forthcoming album The Awakening.

The 'X Factor Effect' takes hold in true form this week as Damien Rice catapults back into the Top 10 with Cannonball. The track, originally released back in 2002, was covered by 23-year-old Welsh maths teacher, John Adams, on last Saturday night's show. Its previous highest chart position was 19 on its re-release in 2004, but thanks to Simon Cowell’s TV phenomenon and an endorsement from X Factor judge Gary Barlow who praised it as being "one of my favourite songs of all time", it rockets all the way up to the Number Six slot in today's Official Singles Update.

Leicester rock 'n' roll outfit Kasabian, are in line to score their third Number One album with Velociraptor!, the follow-up to 2009’s million-selling West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, which enters at the summit in today’s Official Albums Update. Last week's chart-topper Ed Sheeran is in second place with debut album +, whilst Adele’s 21 (3) remains on course to spend an astonishing 35th consecutive week inside the Top Five.

New entries in today’s Official Albums Update Top 10 include American singer/songwriter Christina Perri whose debut album Lovestrong enters at Number Four. Less than 250 copies behind is Tony Bennett’s Duets II (5), featuring a star-studded line up of guests and includes the poignant track Body and Soul, Amy Winehouse’s last recording.

The Top 10 is completed by SuperHeavy (10) by rock supergroup SuperHeavy, made up of musicians Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, Damian Marley and producer/composer A.R.Rahman.
