Kate Bush returns to UK Top 10 for first time in a decade thanks to Stranger Things viral success
Kate Bush returns to the Top 10 of the Official Singles Chart for the first time in a decade today, as Running Up That Hill rides the viral wave of being included in the latest season of Stranger Things.
Featured as one of the emotional lynchpins in the journey of character Max (played by Sadie Sink) Bush has been exposed to a whole new generation following the show’s debut on Netflix and over the past week has absolutely flown back up the charts.
As it stands, Running Up That Hill is a re-entry in today’s Official Singles Chart at Number 8. It’s the track’s first time in the Top 10 since 2012, when it a new mix of the song was featured in the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Check out the song’s chart history in the UK.
Originally released in 1985 as the lead single from Hounds of Love, Running Up That Hill then peaked at Number 3, becoming Bush’s second highest-ever charting single in the UK (after debut Number 1 single Wuthering Heights).

This week, Running Up That Hill shifts 48,000 chart sales – it's most impressive week of sales in the UK since digital sales tracking began in 2005.
On this remarkable achievement, Official Charts Company CEO Martin Talbot says: “It is fantastic to see Running Up That Hill returning to the Top 10 this week, driven by its feature in Stranger Things, introducing Kate Bush and this iconic Eighties hit to a brand-new audience.”

Congrats to Kate but this should have charted higher - but due to the ACR (accelerated chart ratio) rule it didn't. Kate had a clear lead on Harry on spotify, apple music, and itunes throughout the majority of the week.
Sad that the only reason this charted relatively low (and much lower than it should have) is because of a rule like that.

This is all so confusing this formula for ranking the charts. I think the placing may rise next week simply because for a couple of days in the week were before all the new interest.

Ridiculous rule - arbitrary manipulation and a complete distortion of true popularity rendering the chart meaningless imo

The only reason they did this is because of Ed Sheeran having 16 songs in the Top 20 in 2017 after “Divide” was released. I don’t care if Ed Sheeran takes up the whole Top 40, as long as they tell the truth.

48,000 is of course the SCR total and not the ACR-adjusted total that puts her at 8 (instead of probably 2)
