Christmas Number 1 2021: LadBaby’s Sausage Rolls For Everyone featuring Ed Sheeran and Elton John takes early lead in the biggest chart race of the year

With five days to go, it’s still all to play for as Wham!, Mariah Carey and expletive-fuelled anti-Boris Johnson track make strong Top 5 start.

After the first 48 hours of the 2021 Christmas Number 1 race (#XmasNo1), social media star LadBaby takes an early lead and could be on course to make Official Chart history this Friday when the winner is revealed exclusively on BBC Radio 1's The Official Chart with Scott Mills.

Currently ahead of the competition in the battle for the most coveted Number 1 of the year, LadBaby could gain their fourth consecutive Christmas Number 1 with
Sausage Rolls For Everyone, featuring Ed Sheeran and Elton John – a sausage roll-themed rework of Ed & Elton’s own new festive track Merry Christmas, in aid of The Trussell Trust food banks.

Sausage Rolls For Everyone is currently the most downloaded track of the week, but in the biggest chart race of the year, there can be no complacency. If YouTube family Mark and Roxanne Hoyle do manage the historic feat, they would be the first act ever to achieve four consecutive Christmas Number 1s. They currently tie with The Beatles and Spice Girls with three apiece. However, victory is by no means assured for LadBaby and with five days left in the race, it’s still all to play for. See all of LadBaby's Christmas Number 1s so far.

Ed Sheeran and Elton John are LadBaby’s closest competitors after the first 48 hours with the original version of Merry Christmas currently at Number 2. In the hopes for a modern Christmas standard of their own, could Ed and Elton overtake LadBaby and retain their place at the top? If they did, it would be the third consecutive week at Number 1 for Merry Christmas, as well as Ed’s second and Elton’s first ever Christmas Number 1 single.

It would be unfair to discount some proper festive classics for battling for the Christmas Number 1 crown this Friday too. Currently, Wham! have the most-streamed track of the week so far with Last Christmas. Could George and Andrew reach Number 1 for the second time this year perhaps?

MORE: Every UK Christmas Number 1

Not far behind them is Mariah Carey with All I Want For Christmas Is You, her yuletide classic reached Number 1 for the first time ever last year. With streaming figures now more important than ever to chart placements, don’t count them out.

At Number 5 midweek, the second-most downloaded track of the week so far is punk band The K**ts with the controversial Boris Johnson Is Still A F**king C**t – a follow on from their 2020 campaign which finished in the Top 5 last year. It’s a strong start, but the band will need to keep up the momentum to hold on to their current placing against the streaming might of other tracks.

George Ezra’s Come On Home For Christmas is also looking to burst into the Top 10 for the first time this week, rising nine to Number 6, while other Amazon Music exclusives are also on the rise. Olivia Dean’s The Christmas Song could ascend 21 places to a new peak of Number 17. Camila Cabello could gain this week’s highest climber with I’ll Be Home For Christmas vaulting an impressive 24 spots to Number 19 midweek.

MORE: The UK's favourite Christmas Number 1 of all time revealed

Outside the Top 10,  Christmas songs are on the rise in anticipation of the big day next week. Andy Williams could reach a re-peak with his classic It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year currently at Number 17.

Elsewhere, Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande are eyeing the Top 40 for the first time - a new peak for Santa Can’t You Hear Me could be on the cards (27).

Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Jose Feliciano is also tracking to reach a new personal best on the Official Singles Chart with his 41-year old bilingual festive single Feliz Navidad. It’s currently at Number 35.

And finally, it’s a British Christmas tradition to have charity singles enter the race for the Christmas Number 1, and this year is no exception. Debuting inside the Top 40 and hoping to go higher, the Have A Word Podcast are tracking to enter the Official Singles Chart at Number 39 with their charity single Laura’s Gone, featuring Finlay K.

The cut-off for sales and streams to count in the Christmas Number 1 race 2021 is 23.59pm Thursday 23 December, so get behind your favourite before then.

The 2021 Official Christmas Number 1 winner will be announced on Friday, December 24 on BBC Radio 1's Official Chart with Scott Mills from 4pm. The full Top 100 Official Christmas Singles Chart and Albums Chart will be published on OfficialCharts.com from 5.45pm.

The only good thing about ladbaby is the money will go to the thrussel Trust, Food banks. I hope Wham or Even Mariah takes no 1, rather than Ed and Elton....

What I don't understand is that normally a remix never counts as an own song, it is always counted to the original song (e.g. You are the reason with Leona Lewis was never featured as a separate song but all the sales were counted with the original solo version of Calum Scott etc.). Why do they now make an exception?

That is ridiculous! Even though it is for Charity, they still could have produced a decent single!! So many Xmas singles were released over the years which were great: "DO THEY IT'S CHRISTMAS?" etc...The only good thing coming out of it is the ladbaby won't stay long in the chart: 2 or 3 weeks maybe...So i am looking forward to next week number 1 single!! who could it be? WHAM? MARIAH or THE POGUES?

I am absolutely shocked and dismayed a song about our fine Prime Minister like that is allowed. The best we can do, in a nod to the classical protests of our bra and book burning ancestors, is we all go out tomorrow and buy as many copies of all 10 versions as we can and then delete them from our hard drives. Obviously digital copies can't be burned. Let's show these louts they can't mess with the easily offended. Up Ladbaby

christ, the weatherman did say there were gonna be snowflakes, didn’t he? 😳

boris is a hypocrite, a liar, a walking corn on the cob, and the second worst prime minister the uk has ever had behind margaret thatcher. first he wants to put in some rules to stop us from being infected by the virus, then he decides to throw a party in order to infect people - BORIS, ARE YOU THAT STUPID?! my pet goldfish could do a better job than him and my pet goldfish died six years ago.

so yeah, he’s horrible. and i’m never ever gonna change my mind.

Why can't Ladbaby do a sponsored silence instead? And Elton and Ed could have just made a donation to charity on the promise that Ladbaby never go anywhere near a recording studio again.

avatar

3

i understand that it’s for charity and i appreciate what they’re doing, but chart positions don’t matter at all as long as enough is being raised to help the cause. ladbaby has only went and released sausage songs FOUR TIMES - next year he should just run a marathon or do a mrbeast challenge or some sh*t, that’ll still do the trick.

avatar

jj

2

Chart positions don't matter at all. Just end your sentence there.
That's the reality of it. Chart positions do not matter. Not about this song. Not about any song. There is no point in complaining about which song gets the number 1 spot. It truly does not matter. All the artists are making loads of money. All the charity songs are making loads of money for charity. Attacking people who are raising money for charity is in poor taste.

I was fair to LadBaby. I have no idea who they are, but I gave them a chance. I listened to it. I'm even-handed. Thought about it for a while.
And my consideration is that this song would be the WORST NUMBER ONE RECORD OF THIS CENTURY.

I know it's for charity, but, if you like the song, why on earth wouldn't you listen to the original version? It's for charity too. It has the cheapest-sounding production, much worse vocals, it's not funny, and, for everyone else, it's not even a cover of a particularly good song. And, just to restate the madness, it's literally the same song that's currently number one, just miles, miles worse in terms of performance, arrangement and production value.

I BEG all decent-minded people of Britain: buy the K**ts, stream the Ed and Elton song, stream Wham, stream Mariah. Make a playlist of those four songs and play them on repeat. I applaud Ladbaby for the money they have raised for a worthy cause, but, like Carthage in 149 B.C.; Rome in A.D. 476; or Constantinople in 1453, our civilisation will fall if this horrible track goes down in the history books as a Number One single.

This has to end. We killed Jive Bunny. We will do the same to Ladbaby.

How is the Cut Off Sales And streams to count for christmas charts ?, for 23:59 Thursday 23rd December 2021 A Christmas Charts or Xmas #1, thats way before Christmas. It Silly, there is a least 48 hours to go till the end of 1st day Of Christmas never to be recorded (evening of 25th December), we all know The Christmas True Charts is From 31st December 2021, (24th to 30th December Real Time Christmas Week Recording Data)

i was disappointed by roddy’s new album tbh, i was expecting him to go harder than he did. 5/10 album imo, which because i love roddy and he’s one of my favourite rappers.

please excuse me for being antisocial still remains an amazing album tho 🧡

1

i agree pemfba is a better and amazing album, i think what let this down is most of the songs sound the same and they're all album tracks apart from late at night so its really hard to differentiate between them. if he'd dropped a single instead of an album now and then dropped another like a month later then the album i think it would've worked better

rollercoastin' is my favourite, and thailand and all good keep getting stuck in my head but yeah, really would've loved more variation from one of my if not my favourite rapper, i gave it 8/10 i might dislike or like it more in the future not sure yet

The Christmas Charts is defo on from 31st December this Year With Christmas Real-time data, (up to 23rd or 24th is not Christmas). always believe in the truth, Christmas Charts is ment for Christmas data. not Before.

T

TimisD

1

I can understand your point but it's not working like this. No one cares what is at number one the week following Christmas Day. That's why the Christmas number one song was always the number one preceding Christmas Day. Simple as that!

avatar

Piran

0

I've literally just Googled the definition of the Christmas chart & this is the first thing I found;

"Due to the common practice of dating a chart by the date on which the week ends, the Christmas chart is dated the end of the week containing 25 December."

The chart that you're referring to will be announced on New Year's Eve & would be dated from 31st December 2021 to 6th January 2022, hence it's not the Christmas chart by the above definition!

I really can't think of any other ways to explain it, but basically, the Christmas chart is the one that contains the last full tracking week before Christmas Day.

It's just tradition that it goes like that, which is why everyone released their campaigns on the 17th of December this year!

It always has been & it always will be, haha. :)

avatar

BleeUK

0

its not rocket science to find out i'm truthly right, charts broadcasted has to be way after Christmas day not before or during Christmas day because the data hasnt reached christmas yet!, 100% the Christmas charts is on from 31st December, the Christmas Eve/Christmas Day Media Broadcast is From only 17th to 23th December this year with Units and Sales Data, but thats Thats not Christmas at all, Yeah i read this every year about the rules, and i'm still right, it cleaver people are getting confused with the charts with the Issues or Week Ending, i'm sure one day this will be the topic of the future planet factoids, new station or someone will pick this up, to update the real positions hance after 20th-early 25th broadcast, more like 27th December to 1st Jan

avatar

Piran
