Adele's Easy On Me makes record-breaking Number 1 debut on the Official Singles Chart
Adele’s comeback is off to a record-breaking start as her new single Easy On Me soars straight to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart.
The singer’s third UK Number 1 single takes its crown with a massive 217,300 chart sales in its first week - the highest week 1 figure since Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You, which earned 226,800 in January 2017.
Adele also breaks an Official UK Chart record with the single as Easy On Me racked up 24 million streams in the UK over the last seven days, the most streams for a song in one week – topping Ariana Grande’s record of 16.9 million set back in January 2019 with 7 Rings. Easy On Me also earns the biggest week of digital download sales of 2021 so far, with 23,500.
Easy On Me is Adele’s first new music in six years, and is the lead track from her upcoming album 30. Its release sparks a resurgence in streams of her back catalogue, sending two more of her hits back into the Top 40 this week; When We Were Young lands at Number 25, and Someone Like You bows at Number 34.

Meanwhile, Coldplay’s new album Music of the Spheres sends their recent BTS collaboration My Universe up ten places to Number 5, while Let Somebody Go with Selena Gomez enters at Number 24, and former Top 20 hit Higher Power rebounds to Number 26.
There are new peaks this week for Becky Hill & Topic’s My Heart Goes (La Di Da) (11), Doja Cat’s Woman (13), Dermot Kennedy’s Better Days (16) – which climbs eight to become the Irish singer’s fourth Top 20 single – and The Anxiety’s Meet Me At Our Spot (17).
Clean Bandit & Topic zoom up ten places to Number 28 with Drive ft. Wes Nelson, and finally, Ewan McVicar’s dance smash Tell Me Something Good climbs four places to a new peak at Number 30.

Erm... absolutely no mention of Bob Marley's 'Legend' becoming only the second album ever to reach 1000 weeks on chart after Abba's 'Gold'? Or are we only interested in chart records being set by white artists?

Nothing to do with being white or not. Bob Marley didn't set the record. Nor will he until Abba drop out for at least 16 weeks, which was unlikely anyway. Even less so with a new album due out imminently.
Although the 2nd act to do so, an article on the 1000 weeks should still be written. 2 more are relatively close (RUmours and Queen Greatest Hits), but 5th place is quite distant at about 500 weeks. With less than 3500 album chart weeks ever announced, they have both been on chart almost a third of the entire chart's history! Abba's probably more remarkable as they have done it in 8 years less than Legend.

Maybe Bob should of shaved his legs and wore a mini skirt. Just Kidding!! The Mamma Mia movies helped a lot where Abba gold is concerned. Around then Gold started to appear on the charts more frequently so no doubt these movies helped with their album. Interesting at around 2004 Queen actually let Abba by around 100 weeks on chart. As for Legend , it's not riding any waves. At the end of the day who really cares as having a Album @ #1 or more weeks on charts does not mean that Album has sold more records. Far from it. I'm glad that legend has spent so much time on the charts purely for the music and no buzz surrounding it. Just the music- as it should be.

While I wish that 'Easy On Me' could've beat 'Shape Of You's opening week figure, those are some astonishing first week numbers! :O

Am I the only person that doesn't like this song? I think it's kind of boring and pretty average. I was expecting something like this for the first week as Adele doesn't release a new song for over 6 years but she did much better in the past.
I believe her worldwide numbers will start falling fast this week but in US and UK she may be #01 for at least 2 or 3 weeks.

hi Nu No! I have to agree with you: i don't like her new song at all: it is indeed boring and nothing special! But it seems like everybody loves adele! She could have released a worst song but still people will buy it..the same happened to ED.....

Yeah same, i loved her other songs like "Hello" and "Rolling in the deep". But Easy On Me isnt really my favourite :P
