Ed Sheeran sails into a tenth week at Number 1 with Bad Habits, while Kanye West scores three new entries with tracks from his Number 1 album Donda.

With over 8.8 million streams in the UK this week and leading on digital downloads, Bad Habits finishes 16,000 chart sales ahead of Number 2, Stay by The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber.

Bad Habits is now the longest-reigning Number 1 single in the UK since Dance Monkey by Tones & I, which spent 11 consecutive weeks at Number 1 between October-December 2019.

The track now matches the Number 1 reigns of Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You, Rihanna’s Umbrella ft. Jay Z, and 1953 hit Cara Mia by David Whitfield. Only nine songs in history have ever spent more weeks at Number 1 in the UK, including Sheeran’s own Shape Of You.

Meanwhile, Industry Baby by Lil Nas X & Jack Harlow climbs two to a new peak at Number 5, landing just ahead of Joel Corry & Jax Jones’ Out Out ft. Charli XCX & Saweetie which rises four to Number 6.

Kanye West scores his 21st Top 10 single with Hurricane (7), following the release of his new album Donda. Kanye earns two more places in this week’s Top 40 with Jail (11) and Off The Grid (15) bringing his total number of UK Top 40 singles to 47.

Anne-Marie & Little Mix climb four into the Top 10 with Kiss My (Uh Oh) (10) following a new ‘Girl Power’ remix featuring Becky Hill, Raye and Stefflon Don. It’s now Anne-Marie’s 6th Top 10 single and Little Mix’s 19th.

Further down, TikTok favourite Heat Waves by Glass Animals rebounds into a new peak of Number 18, Elton John & Dua Lipa collaboration Cold Heart flies 12 to Number 23, and Butter by BTS returns to the chart at 32 following a new remix featuring Megan Thee Stallion.

Becky Hill scores her 13th Top 40 single with Topic collaboration My Heart Goes (La Di Da) at Number 36, from her debut album Only Honest On The Weekend.

Finally, David Guetta, Mistajam and John Newman’s If You Really Love Me (How Will I Know) – a rework of the Whitney Houston classic - climbs three to Number 40 after a seven-week climb. The track marks David Guetta’s 42nd Top 40 single – his fourth in 2021 alone - John Newman’s eighth, and Mistajam’s first.

Can someone enlighten me what the has tiktok got to do with music and the charts?

Songs can gain serious popularity and traction through the spread of being used in TikTok trends and videos etc. Increased popularity will obviously translate to increased streams.

I agree, Tiktok does not add their music to the Chart as a streaming point yet, but it may do in time which is sad :( Radio 1 before 2014 was all about the Proper sales, (and now added fake units from streaming points) saying that before 2007 was defo proper as their never added album version or together or alt promo cuts and just used to be a single releases only version to charts

To be honest streaming shouldn't be influencing the official charts at all.
Steaming should only be used as a stepping stone towards buying the physical product on cd or vinyl.

I am actually amazed Bad Habits stayed at number 1 for more than a week, let alone 10 weeks. The song is good but not that good. This must mean there is no other artist or song out there good enough. I think even Ed himself is a bit surprised to say the least. He did assume 3 Lions was going to be #1 the week after Bad Habits originally peaked at #1, that now seems like a lifetime ago. So what is so special about Bad Habits?
Is there a serious problem with our music industry?

There is indeed Dave, there is indeed. Would Ed Sheeran stayed at #1 for 10 weeks based on sales alone if streaming wasn't a thing? Absolutely not!

Absolutely not, its not even that great a song, had that been released in the 80's or 90's it wouldn't even have made the album. Its an average B-SIde at best. People reading this probably don't even know what a B-SIde is these days.

There's only one good thing to come out of streaming and that's Wham! finally reaching No.1 last year at Christmas.

But when you think about it this highlights how poor streaming services are, Last Christmas peaked at number 1 in the New year when Christmas had already past.
How ironic was that?
This problem would never have happened in a physical sales chart?

First artist ever to have 2 songs reach 10+ weeks at #1, what a GOAT.

it a bit of fix to be honest, Yeah that becuase of rules of Keep adding other remixes to belt more than just one single edit, Like Bad Habits there are at least 4 versions added Up to the 10 weeks, Medeza Remix, Joel Corry Remix, Single Edit and Tion Wayne with Centeal Cee and Fumez The Engineer Mix so all fans rushed to steams those artist to hear Bad Habits and all clocked up units to stay at #1, and talk about Stay, the artist at #2 for a few week Justin Bieber with The Kid LAROI, i think tech would of been #1 as Bad Habits might of stayed at the top for only about 4-8 weeks max as all these remix helped clocked more weeks in for the Top,

I'm afraid the original version of Bad Habits alone got more chart sales than STAY for every single week that it was #1, the remixes just helped it cement its lead so that instead of being like 10k chart sales ahead it was 30k chart sales ahead

Heatwaves making a new peak after first entering the top 40 so long ago really is incredible!

Woah, it actually made it into double-digits!

Decent song, but we desperately need a new #1 now, haha. :)

Completely agree. Unfortunately I can't help but feel he's going to end up knocking himself off the top spot shortly!

avatar

Piran

Yeah, it’s either going to be him or Drake. :/

Not sure which one I'd prefer to have an extended run at no.1 to be honest. I mean it's great they've released tracks which are clearly popular but I just feel there are other artists out there with better tracks that just don't get the attention they deserve.

Yeah Bad Habits need a new remix for October so it gets a proper send off for Halloween #1 (As it more Scary than Hot Summer) and let it climb up to the Top, because soon it going ACR

I'm not surprised over the weeks of bad habits, it crafty, he released new remixes every few weeks from Joel Corry Remix of Bad Habits, than Meduza in the 4 weeks released , as well down the line Tion Wayne/Central Cee with Fumez The Engineer Remix and guess what it all count combined to one big unit streaming point so i think Stay would of been tech #1 on the single version format than some adding version all together it crazy radio 1 keep that rule in place

I think Ed’s moving onto his next single, ‘Shivers’, next Friday anyway! :P
