It's the third time that Drake's claimed the feat across separate releases in his career.

Congratulations to Drake, who scores the Official Chart double this week as his Dark Lane Demo Tapes mixtape and song Toosie Slide claim Number 1 on the Official Albums and Singles Charts.

The entries earn the Canadian rapper his third UK Number 1 album and sixth chart-topping single. Dark Lane Demo Tapes scored 20,000 chart sales to secure the top spot, 95% of which came from streams, while Toosie Slide racked up 49,000 chart sales.

Drake is the third artist to pull off the chart double in 2020, following Stormzy’s Heavy Is The Head album / Own It single and Eminem’s Music To Be Murdered By album / Godzilla single, both in January.

However, Drake has achieved the rare feat of landing the double for a third time across separate releases in his career, after his album Views / One Dance single both held Number 1 in the same week in May 2016 and album Scorpion / In My Feelings single in July 2019.

Drake becomes the tenth act in UK chart history to achieve the Official Chart Double at least three times across separate releases in their career. The other nine are: Ed Sheeran, Rihanna, Madonna, Queen, Cliff Richard, ABBA, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones.

Elsewhere on this week’s Official Albums Chart, The Strokes are back in the Top 5 with The New Abnormal, rocketing 82 places to Number 4 following its release on vinyl – this week’s best-seller on the format. The band’s sixth album debuted at Number 3 last month.

London rapper Yxng Bane lands his highest charting album yet with Quarantime: The Lost Files debuting at Number 11, just ahead of Scottish indie band Tide Lines who enter at Number 12 with sophomore album Eye of the Storm, their first Top 20.

Further down, Niall Horan’s former Number 1 Heartbreak Weather flies 32 places back into the Top 40 at Number 31 following its release on vinyl, and finally, My Turn by US rapper Lil Baby returns to the chart at Number 32 thanks to a deluxe edition of the collection featuring six additional songs.

As well as claiming the Number 1 with Toosie Slide, which lifts from 4 to 1, Drake lands two new entries in this week’s Top 20. Chicago Freestyle ft. Giveon lands at Number 10, and Pain 1993 ft. Playboi Carti enters at Number 17. The entries take Drake’s total of UK Top 40 hits to 51.

There’s lots of movement in this week’s Top 10: Doja Cat’s Say So zooms eight places to a new peak at Number 2 following the release of new remix of the song featuring Nicki Minaj, and Savage by US rapper Megan Thee Stallion vaults 19 spots to Number 3 after a new version featuring Beyoncé was released last week. The climb earns Megan her first UK Top 10.

Somewhere there is an island where people are trapped, streaming Drake 24/7 against their will with no escape, there can be no other explanation.

Again ACR rears its ugly head and generates a fake no.1 and a fake double. The only real double this year was the Weeknd which due to ACR never officially happened...

Ah yes because you, David Eve, can see and record ‘real’ number ones! I’m surprised Radio 1 And the official charts haven’t asked for your help yet!

From James Masterton's column in Music Week:
After 14 consecutive weeks as a Top 3 hit single, Blinding Lights by The Weeknd dips to No.5 (31,638 sales) although this drop is entirely because the single has tumbled to ACR status for the second time. Blinding Lights is still comfortably the most-streamed track of the moment, its total of 6,582,839 eligible streams almost 600,000 more than nearest contender Drake. Without the ratio change, the single would have posted a far healthier sale of 57,682 meaning it would once more have ended up at the top of the charts.

Indeed as noted last week, a slew of ACR-induced dips means we have one of the freshest-looking Top 10 lists for some weeks. Notable exits include Roses by Saint Jhn (3-14, 24,335 sales), Physical (7-26, 15,964 sales) and Don't Start Now (9-29, 14,086 sales) both by Dua Lipa, and Lonely by Joel Corry (8-30, 14,049 sales). The only one of last week's Top 10 hits to depart more organically is Houdini from KSI and friends, dropping 6-13 with 24,460 sales"

Oh well, at least 'Toosie Slide' is one of Drake's better #1 singles, just don't let it spend a ridiculous number of weeks at #1 guys! :P

The charts are a mess. I gave up in 2017 when ACR lumbered in.
But kudos to you Piran & the regular gang of contributors who still have some faith in the UK music charts. You must have patience of Saints. :o)

Haha, thanks! :D

Yeah, even when the songs in the chart are bad, it's still fun to talk to the regulars here about better music, haha.
