13 is unlucky for some, including Ed Sheeran whose thirteen-week stint at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart has come to an end.

Harry Styles scores his first Number 1 as a solo artist with debut single Sign Of The Times. Taken from his fortchoming self-titled debut album, due for release May 12, Sign Of The Times pipped Ed’s Shape Of You to the top spot by just over 3,000 copies, the track has been downloaded 39,000 times and accumulated 3.5 million streams in the seven days since its release.

It’s not all bad though for Ed – Shape of You (2) and Galway Girl (3) are still both in the Top 5, while Shape of You was the most streamed track of the week with 6.8 million plays.

Elsewhere, there are small gains for Martin Jensen’s Solo Dance and Zedd & Alessia Cara’s Stay which both advance one place to new peak positions of 7 and 8 respectively.

New entries and high climbers

Lorde’s Green Light advances seven places this week to crack the Top 20 for the first time (20). Jason Derulo, Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign’s Swalla leaps 10 spots to 24, while Future’s Mask Off climbs seven rungs to Number 26.

Finally, two tracks enter the Top 40 for the very first time; Martin Solveig and Ina Wroldsen’s Places rockets 15 places to Number 27, and Disciples score their first Top 40 entry since July 2015 with On My Mind, a 47 place riser to Number 34.

Looking at the numbers, Shape Of You is still number 2 with just 3.000 downloads. People pay a monthly fee for streaming services, they don't pay to stream a song in particular. This means that people who pay a fee to use streaming services are madly in love with Ed's songs and they stream them a lot... for free. Chart stats are very funny these days. In the USA are even funnier, 'cause even free streams (like YouYube videos) count for the charts. People don't "buy" songs/albums anymore (unless you're Adele, of course), and the Charts now measure consumption and popularity instead of the numbers of real copies sold. So what's the use in keeping on comparing the number of weeks at the top of Shape Of You (or Drake last year) with Bryan Adams' record?
