8. dream/he loves u not (2000): this was their only top 10 hit, stuck behind destiny's child's monster #1 smash 'independent woman'...peaking @ #2.  https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=Ppqtk_PlWu4

9. wilson phillips/release me (1990): the 2 wilson sisters father is brian wilson/beach boys & chynna phillips dad is john phillips/mamas & papas...& the girls' harmonies are still great to listen to!  1 of my fave albums during this time...the girls scored 4 big top 10 hits, incl. 3 #1's off this album...enjoy everyone: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=Y91Wkr0X6iA

10. spice girls/say you will be there *1996*: i can't say i was a huge fan of theirs, but i can't lie, they did amazing here during this time.  their debut album easily became 1 of the top selling albums over here and easily the #1 album of the year on the billboard 200 albums year end list.  during this time the spice girls were able to build a huge& fast momentum here that they were being compared to the beatles.  the girls themselves shot down the comparisons explaining they were just doing their own thing and didn't want to be 'the next anybody'.  genius move!  exactly what i was trying to tell modest management on billboard...afterwards the u.s. media quit comparing the girls to the beatles & the spice girls went onto become 1 of the biggest acts here.  hard to believe all that was 26 yrs ago!  https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=FLnuDkGlluk

cont'd...

5. brownstone/5miles to empty (1997): brownstone had a brief splash in the 90s and sadly maxee, lead singer, passed away around 2015.  but this single here sounds like a church choir!  https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=N7CBFh6aCDo

6. little mix/stereo soldier (2012): although little mix couldn't crack the hot 100 top 10, their debut album is still really good.  BUT, i have to say that simon cowell *although unintentionally* did them a huge disservice building them as the 'next spice girls' and they couldn't make the same impact the spice girls did.  i said many times on billboard, & even got into it with some of the little mix fans, that i'm a firm believer that you just have to be yourself.  & modest management failed both 1D & little mix by NOT intervening when the 1D guys, esp. zayn, were too open with their private lives.  i was merely pointing out there's a right time & place to blab all your business and telling them how justin timberlake & britney spears were so good at making everyone happy by not shoving their personal lives down everyone's throats.  but anyway, i never disliked little mix and am very happy on all their success...https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=5sOBZziIC5I

7. allure/all cried out (1997): this was their only top 10 hit *see how hard it was to crack the hot 100 top 10 in the 90s?  too much competition and big hits that never left the top 10* https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=gInlPMHRjTQ

ok LOL!  i'll try & not make this next list too long...but wanted to do a top 10 list of past female groups i've enjoyed and did great here in the states:

1. tlc/diggin' on you *1995*: here in america during the 90s, we had TONS of great talent from every genre excelling in sales & on the billboard charts.  & regarding tlc, i still haven't seen any female group come even close to them.  not even the spice girls or destiny's child.  when tlc had a top 10 hit, it would be forever until it fell out of the top 10.  i still remember their #1 smash 'waterfalls' on the hot 100 chart, enjoy everyone: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=GxTqqjJWGpc

2.destiny's child/jumpin' jumpin *2000*: their debut album didn't really do anything but their 2nd album 'the writing's on the wall' is what made them into a huge act over here and is still a fave album of mine.  during this time, destiny's child were already notching #1 smashes and top 10 hits and this album going 8x plat.  i have tons of fun memories of them in the hot 100 top 10 & then of course kelly & beyonce doing their solo thing in the coming years ;) https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=Z6SBO-8RlyY

3. danity kane/ride for you (2008): danity kane achieved 2 top 10 hits and are still the only female group to have their first 2 albums debut @ #1 here in america.  i was a huge fan of theirs and was hoping they could become bigger.  this single didn't crack the top 40 over here *i still can't fathom why* but was my fave by them: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=Yn5IwcmjnBI

4. xscape/the arms of the one who loves you (1998): i'm around the same age as xscape and enjoyed all their hits on the hot 100 chart...they did very well notching a handful of top 10 hits throughout the 90s.  https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=D46o2AWaUcE

sorry mates, didn't wanna make my last post too long...

5. o-town/we fit together *2000, fun musical year here!*: o-town did pretty good, going plat. & notching a couple of top 10 hits.  this single here peaked on the bubbling under hot 100 chart *somewhere around #105* but i always enjoyed it: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=zuQzav7Y6vw

6. 98*/my everything (2000): 98 degrees did pretty good, going multi-plat. and notching a handful of top 10 hits.  & also believe it or not, this one 'fan' of nick lachey *lead singer* argued with me on the hot 100 page about an honest joke i made about him.  back in the day the billboard hot 100 page would have DOZENS of fans chatting about the charts & such.  and during the time of this single, nick & jessica simpson would later marry and then divorce *he took half of her money*.  so i mentioned that and this 'fan' of nick's came out of nowhere and argued with me @ great lengths how nick didn't 'take' her money but was 'entitled' to her money.  i later apologized to him to end the argument and i still believe it was him i was going back & forth with *celebs would chat on the hot 100 page, the actor brian austin green *90210 actor* would chat with us numerous times*.  enjoy everyone: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=3ce0pUVogRc

hey what's up mates!!  hope that huge ar*e isn't bothering you all ;).  so anything on the official charts you all like and could recommend me checking out?  i thought i'd do a top 10 list of past boybands that achieved success here in the states...today, it's more the k-pop scene, but in the late 90s-early 2000s we had a great number of them do great in sales and on the charts:

1. backstreet boys/as long as you love circa 1997-98: i can't lie...my all time fave groups on the hot 100 chart are the backstreet boys & tlc.  (1 direction is not too far behind...lots of fun when they were in the top 10 also) well bsb still remain the top selling boyband here in the states & around the world.  and their first year on the hot 100 chart still remains my all time fave yr being a hot 100 fan.  they were able to build great momentums with their 1st 3 albums over here & their debut album still remains a long time fave of mine...enjoy everyone: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=nPsYnnRtjVo

2. nsync/god must've spent a lil' more time on you(1999): during this time in america bsb's debut album was monster big *14xplat* so nsync was right behind them.  nsync's debut album went 10x plat. and yielded 1 top 10 hit *this single*, but don't worry, their 2nd album 'no strings attached' would break all kinds of sales records!  this single remains my all time fave nsync single:https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=LhiOPSyYmAI

3. hanson/i will come to you (1997): i have younger cousins who were into the teen pop scene going on around this time and hanson's debut album 'middle of nowhere' did pretty good (4x plat)...they got a #1 hit with 'mmmbop' and this single peaked @ #9. https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=xmoMRDwPxjo

4. one direction/what makes you beautiful (2012): 1D actually did pretty good over here but i honestly felt they could be even bigger...very bad public relations, i myself was posting to them on the billboard hot 100 page many times passing along ideas and advice what nysnc & bsb did, esp. justin timberlake back in the day.  believe it or not, 1 male 'huge fan' ;) of theirs chatted with me many times asking me all about my ideas for the group.  i knew all 5 of them looked up to justin timberlake and justin was in the exact same boat as them, being in a huge boyband and still carrying on in his private life while keeping fans, radio & record label happy.  *justin & britney spears were a couple a good yr before they told the world...genius move!* anyway, i believe to this day it was niall i spoke with, cuz he was the only member that followed my advice PERFECTLY!  justin was so good keeping his private life out of the spotlight which is exactly what niall did...enjoy everyone: https://www.youtube.c*m/watch?v=UlANZSYZ2Js

Why are the charts so stagnant these past few years? Its still the same old songs in the top 100 since the start of the year?

I was a kid growing up in the 70's, 80's, and the charts stayed fresh with new stuff entering the charts constantly.

Chart Review 15/09/2023

i didn't show up yesterday because i had more pressing matters to attend to- ANYWAYS. You know what time it is. It's the bit of the week where you get to witness the greatest thing to come out of Eccles since the M62, and watch my hopes slowly evaporate week after week, until I resemble a very small walnut.

This week is not of those.

The Top 5 could be considered as the most unorthodox and uncommercial since Christmas, given only 2 of these are on the Radio 1 A list, whilst we also brace for impact in sight of the inevitable returns to glory for Drake and Tate McRae next week. But that's next week. This week was Olivia Rodrigo week. Except it wasn't because she ain't No.1.

Doja Cat is starting to spread her girth like an unmovable object, with Paint The Town Red achieving a second-week at the top. Her very own album Scarlet is out next Friday, although she has the small matter of seeing Ed Sheeran return this month as well. And none of us want that to happen.

Didn't stop GUTS from delivering a bunch of guitar-powered coolness into the Top 10, as vampire slowly edges back up to 2, bad idea right? rockets to the bronze spot, and are joined by the slightly worse song get him back!, which has a video, immediately justifying it's Number 7 placing. For once, I am happy with the world.

The other 4 new hits all take up the 4 Horses of the Apocalypse tropes, which may seem like a wrong comparison, until you see what they represent. War is portrayed by the most shocking sight of the week. And by War, I mean WAP. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion clearly looked back on their UK chart-topper (which stands for wet donkey pussycat) with so much endeavour, that they've gone and followed it up. Only this time it's worse. Listening to Bongos is that rare feeling you get when you step on Lego. You don't know how to react, but it'll probably be painful.

Then there's Pestinence, or Conquest, or whatever you call it. Namely, Leigh-Anne Pinnock's tendency to NOT. GIVE UP. EVER. Her second solo hit does about 14 places worse than last time, but is at least of better quality than her previous snoozer. Maybe because she tried to spice it up by spinning a wheel of EVERY TOP 40 ARTIST OF 2023 SO FAR, and just going from there. In this case, Ayra Starr, who I already forgot had that Rush song that hung around for ages. A situation that Troye Sivan seems dangerously close to replicating.

Having recovered from my epileptic fit that definitely wasn't Mercury Prize-related, Famine on this scale can be replicated with how stale the charts are that there's YET ANOTHER BLEEDIN' BTS MEMBER IN HERE. We've seen Jimin accidentally spend a few weeks torturing us, J-Hope had a chart "hit" earlier in the year, and Jung Kook is STILL defying expectations. Now he can be joined by Kim Tae-Hyung, or 'V' as he is known, to channel his inner James Blake, and try to make the kind of song that I would like, if he wasn't from South Korea. Naturally, he's failed. This is also here because of PHYSICAL RELEASES, which also adds to the famine effect.

And as for Death, well, The Rolling Stones just won't go away, will they? Some 18 years after their last album, they've had to hijack Jimmy Fallon's life, hire the likes of Elton John and Lady Gaga to hang around on their upcoming album, and they have no drummer. Never stopped Depeche Mode. But yeah, the iTunes massive have forced new single Angry to become their 44th Top 40 single, and their first since Rain Fall Down in 2005. Oh, and the song is fine. That's all.

Continuing on his march to global is Fred Again.., usually not known for single success, but with how well adore u has done... Yeah, no, he's taking over the world. If he ever gets to No.1 with this, I'll parade in the streets in just my Adidas trainers. I'm genuinely being serious. Less excitingly, höwever, is the rise of cassö, whö was a cömplete unknöwn 5 weeks agö, but nöw can be föund nestling in the Töp 5. That öne may nöt be quite as fondly remembered.

As for the others, Clavish and Aitch have had better days, Billy Gillies and Zach Bryan won't give up, and artists as varied as Skrapz (generic UK rapper), Campbell & Alcemist (generic dance remake of a 90s hit, in this case Would You? by Touch & Go), and Suicidal-Idol (generic TikTok background noise) all make their Top 100 breakthroughs. Oh, and Royal Blood fall from 1 to 94 on the album chart. Clearly all that Radio 1 support has backfired.

But that's all I have to say, because my football team is having trouble putting goals past Nayef Aguerd, and if Wales don't net at least 75 points against Portugal in the rugby, I'll throw myself off my local bridge into the dirty seas below. G'day.

(P.S. I may not actually do that last part, but I will be keeping track of that score in case they don't succeed. Oh, and if you're asking what my fave O-Rod GUTS songs are, they are bad idea right?, ballad of a homeschooled girl, and all-american b***. In that order. Don't know why I added that. I sound like Gareth Bale now.)

(EDIT: I'm regretting that prediction already.)

What is the reason for Dog Days Are Over sticking around in the charts? Far from a complaint though, I'm loving it!

A

Alfie

One of the below:

• TikTok

• Guardians of the Galaxy 3 using it in its soundtrack.

• The DVD for that film being released.

• The fact that it's an undeniably brilliant song.

Fairly positive week with two upgrades the Top 40 and half of the rankings in green!

Also a first appearance here since 2005 for the iconic Rolling Stones is unexpected but cool. :)

Shame ‘My Love’ probably won’t last beyond this week! 😩

Yeah...

You get the feeling she'll be labelled as a one-hit wonder for all eternity from now on, and that's not gonna do her confidence any good.

Taylor praised the song to her 272 million followers on Instagram, plus the song got added to Radio 1's playlist.

I'm sure Griff's confidence will just fine after that! 😅
