Years & Years have unveiled their new single Sanctify, the first taste of their upcoming second album.
The song and its accompanying music video tells the story, frontman Olly Alexander says, of a "wild and wonderful adventure".
The clip, he explains, "centres around an audition against the backdrop of a future metropolis called Palo Santo. It’s the first part of a bigger jigsaw puzzle and my hope is that it confuses the hell out of people but also excites them in a mysterious and sensual way."
He added: "We’ve deliberately hidden lots of different meanings and I want people to come up with their own interpretations, I’m asking people to jump down the rabbit hole with me and let their imagination run free."
Olly said that the visuals for Sanctify and the band's second album are inspired by the "chaotic and accelerating world," adding: "The thing I love most about pop music has always been fantasy and escapism so I thought, 'well I guess I should try and be the pop star I want to see in the world and make the most ambitious and freaky and sexy thing possible’."
Sanctify is available to stream and download now. Years & Years' long-awaited second album is one of many exciting records lined up for release - check out the longlist here.
