This year’s X Factor champion Matt Terry is on course to make a big entry on this week’s Official Singles Chart with his winner’s single.

24 hours after going on sale, When Christmas Comes Around enters at Number 5 on today’s sales flash (December 13). Penned by Ed Sheeran, the song is the second original X Factor winner’s single, after Shayne Ward’s That’s My Goal in 2005.

However, Matt faces strong competition from Louis Tomlinson, whose debut solo single Just Hold On has climbed a massive 19 places overnight to Number 2, just behind Clean Bandit's Rockabye by 7,500 combined sales. Currently, Matt Terry is trailing Louis by 4,000 combined sales.

The One Direction singer released the track, which features DJ/producer Steve Aoki, on Saturday evening after an emotional performance during The X Factor final, which he dedicated to his late mother Johannah Deakin.

Both songs are now serious contenders for this year’s Official Christmas Number 1 and will go up against campaigns including The London Hospices Choir and Friends Of Jo Cox, who have recorded a cover of The Rolling Stones' You Can't Always Get What You Want Friends in memory of the late MP, and Salford lad James 'SHINNy' Davenport. Check out the full list of Christmas Number 1 contenders here.

The Christmas Number 1 race kicks off on Friday, December 16, with the full Christmas Top 40 revealed on Friday, December 23 on Radio 1’s Official Chart show. The Top 100 will be unveiled on OfficialCharts.com at 5.45pm.

I'm guessing Zayn and Taylor Swift are no longer in contention for the #1 spot.
