This week sees massive sales at the top of the Official Singles Chart, as not one, but two acts have smashed through the 100,000 sales barrier.
East London rapper Wiley scorches through the 100,000 sales milestone with new single Heatwave, and in doing so scoops his first ever solo Number 1. Poolside anthem Heatwave, produced by Rymez, features a huge pop hook from guest vocalist Ms D (who featured on Chipmunk’s chart-topping hit Oopsy Daisy), and today racks up a cool 114,000 sales, making Heatwave one of 2012’s fastest selling singles to date. Cheryl still holds this year’s record with Call My Name.
Wiley’s previous highest solo chart position came courtesy of 2008’s Wearing My Rolex, which peaked at Number 2. 33 year old Wiley also found success as founder member and leader of the Roll Deep collective, scoring two Number 1 singles in 2010 with Good Times and Green Light.
Calvin Harris FT Example’s We’ll Be Coming Back is the second highest new entry of the week and joins Heatwave in bulldozing through the 100,000 landmark. Both tracks relegate previous chart topper Florence & The Machine’s Spectrum to third place, with Maroon 5’s Payphone (Number 4) and Stooshe’s Black Heart (5) completing today’s Top 5.
There are a total of three new entries in this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 40 – Wiley’s Heatwave (Number 1), Calvin Harris FT Example’s We’ll Be Coming Back (2) and Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s Through The Night (34).
The Olympics effect is clear for all to see in this week’s chart, as the three biggest climbers by some distance are the stars of last week’s glittering opening ceremony.
Underworld bag their first Top 20 in almost 10 years with Caliban’s Dream (12) – the track penned by the electronic group’s Rick Smith for the Isles Of Wonder ceremony. Caliban’s Dream matches Frank Turner’s I Still Believe (40), in that they both catapult upwards 57 places apiece this week.
And finally, while Jessica Ennis claims Olympic gold for Team GB on the track this weekend, fellow Sheffield stars Arctic Monkeys manage an almighty jump 46 places to Number 21 with their cover of The Beatles’ classic Come Together.
