The War for the Planet of the Apes was clearly a war the UK enjoyed witnessing as the DVD is shooting right to the top of the charts.

In today's Official Video Chart Update, a midweek glance at how Sunday's final DVD chart may look, the sci-fi movie has shifted a healthy 86,000 units in just three days, and is outselling its nearest rival, Spider-Man: Homecoming (2) by over two-copies-to-one.

Should the action film hold onto its momentum, it will become the first in the rebooted franchise to peak at Number 1 on the Official Video Chart. Its prequels Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes both reached Number 2.

A Planet of the Apes: Trilogy box set is also charting this week, and could reach as high as Number 18.

Elsewhere in the Top 5, fantasy flick Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is looking to debut at Number 3, The Emoji Movie is smiling at Number 4, and former Number 1 Despicable Me 3 is set to drop a place to Number 5.

New entries and high climbers

Blue Planet II has captivated viewers on BBC One, and the DVD box set is set to open at Number 6. Both series of Blue Planet are also available in Blue Planet: The Collection, which is charting at Number 29 today.

The DVD chart's equivalent to Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas, Will Ferrell's Elf is rising again, up six to Number 15 at the halfway point. Strictly Come Dancing - Tess & Craig's Christmas Night In is eyeing a Number 32 debut, and finally, Marvel's Luke Cage: Complete First Season could sneak into the Top 40 at Number 36.

The Emoji Movie peaked higher than expected, I'm disappointed.
