Tom Cruise's The Mummy is set for Official Video Chart Number 1

The reboot of The Mummy franchise has clearly gotten off to a fantastic start - the first movie in the new timeline from the series is heading for this week's Number 1 home entertainment release.

The Official Video Chart is the UK's leading countdown of DVD and Blu-ray sales in the UK, and Tom Cruise's latest movie is sweeping up. In keeping with Halloween, the movie has so far sold 66,600 copies so far this week after just three days of sale.

The original The Mummy film starring Brendan Fraser also hit Number 1 on the Official Video Chart back in February 2000.

Elsewhere in this week's Chart Update Top 5, last week's Number 1 Fast & Furious 8 slips to Number 2, Wonder Woman drops a spot to Number 3, Disney Channel original movie Descendants 2 is new at Number 4, and Moana is on course to hold its place at Number 5.

New entries and high climbers

A further three DVD and Blu-ray titles are set to become new entries within the Top 10 this Sunday. 35 years on from its original release, The Thing is back, now on Blu-ray and is at Number 8. Fellow scary release Cult Of Chucky sits at 9 currently, ahead of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, new at Number 10.

Further down the Top 40, Ash vs Evil Dead's Complete Second Season has its eyes set on Number 18, the Complete 13th Season of Grey's Anatomy is fixated on Number 21, and Chris Evans-starring Gifted occupies Number 25. 

Finally, there are potential chart debuts for Emma Thompson's Alone in Berlin (28) and The Vampire Diaries' Complete Season 8 (32), plus horror classic Hellraiser makes a return at Number 38 following its 30th anniversary Blu-ray release.
