The Script announce new album Freedom Child: "It covers everything from terrorism, to heartbreak, to euphoria"

The Script have announced details of their new album.

Freedom Child is the band's fifth studio record, following 2014's chart-topping No Sound Without Silence. It will be released on September 1.

"We cover a lot of topics on the album," Danny O'Donoghue told Official Charts. We cover everything from terrorism, to heartbreak, to euphoria - all those kinds of extreme emotions people are feeling these days.

"We write so many songs, and over our time in the studio you go through such a kaleidoscope of emotions in your life." 

Discussing the record's more upbeat, EDM-influenced sound at a playback of the album in London this week, Mark Sheehan explained: "There's a song where we've tried to translate into that world. We upped the tempo on everything, and it all feels a bit more in the dance realm. 

"It's a car crash of ska meets reggae meets dance. It was nice to throw something new at ourselves that felt fresh and new. Making people dance isn't something The Script normally do, and we thought it would be fun."

The album's lead single, the summery, ska-lite Rain, is set to become the band's tenth UK Top 40 single on the Official Chart. Look back at their complete chart history here. 

The band are supporting the release of the album with a string of live shows across the UK this summer, kicking off in Dublin on August 21 and wrapping up on September 1 - the record's release day - at London's Brixton Academy. See the full list of dates below:
