Last December saw boy wizard Harry Potter locked in an epic showdown with himself for dominance of the small screen, as the final two instalments of the hugely successful film franchise, The Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2, battled it out to become the Official Video Chart’s biggest selling title of 2011. With this year’s busiest shopping period already upon us, 2012’s final race to the top looks set to be a showdown between vampires and werewolves, superheroes, and, um, a certain Irish housewife...
The penultimate chapter in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn Part 1, is currently in pole position on the combined DVD and Blu-ray chart, after clocking up a sales tally of 1.4 million copies since its release in March.
The second biggest selling video title of 2012 so far is superhero flick, Marvel Avengers Assemble. The Robert Downey Jr-led blockbuster is however eclipsing sales of …Breaking Dawn Part 1 on Blu-ray, outselling it by more than two copies to one.
Series 1 of hit comedy Mrs Brown’s Boys is at Number 3 in the annual best sellers list. Could Mammy make a last minute sprint to surge ahead of Edward and Iron Man? Or will a newly released or upcoming title such as The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, Ted, The Bourne Legacy or Ice Age 4: Continental Drift top the annual chartinstead?
