The Martian is rocketing to Number 1 on this week's Official Video Chart.

The US sci-fi film - starring Matt Damon and directed by Ridley Scott - leads the way on this week's chart with just over 123,000 copies sold at the mid-week stage.

While the movie is on course for impressive first week numbers, it has some way to go to beat current chart-topper Legend (Number 2 on today's Update), which is the fastest-selling DVD/Blu-ray of the year so far after notching up 277,000 sales in its opening week last month.

New at Number 3 is fantasy action-adventure Pan, while Maze Runner - The Scorch Trials slips to 4, and US crime thriller Sicaro completes the Top 5.

Further down the chart, popular BBC drama War & Peace debuts at Number 8 and comedy-drama The Lobster starts at Number 13.

There are two big climbers on this week's Update; BBC drama series Happy Valley is set to re-enter the Top 40, currently at 25, and US comedy Ted 2 vaults 30 places to 33.

The Official Video Chart is revealed on OfficialCharts.com every Sunday at 5.45pm. Click here to view the latest Top 100
