The Hunger Games has shot straight to Number 1 on the Official Video Chart, and in doing so, has become the second fastest selling DVD / Blu-ray release of 2012.

In its first week on sale, the film adaptation of the first instalment of Suzanne Collins’ series of young adult novels has sold over 450,000 copies, making it second only to The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn Part 1 which sold nearly 920,000 copies week one.

The Hunger Games has sold nearly ten times as many as the Number 2 title on this week’s Official Video Chart, The Big Bang Theory – Complete Season 5, while Salmon Fishing In The Yemen, which stars Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt, is new in at Number 3. Last week’s Number 1, Battleship – starring Rihanna, Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson and True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard – slips to Number 4. Zac Efron’s romantic drama, The Lucky One, (Number 5) completes this week’s Top 5.

New Entries And High Climbers

In addition to The Hunger Games (1), The Big Bang Theory – Complete Season 5 (2) and Salmon Fishing In The Yemen (3) there are eight other new entries in this week’s Official Video Chart. Barbie – The Princess And The Popstar is new in at Number 7, while the Blu-ray release of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws sees the 1975 thriller debuting at Number 8. One place behind Jaws at Number 9 is another aquatic creature feature, Piranha 3DD.

Thomas The Tank Engine’s Thomas And Friends – Blue Mountain Mystery enters at Number 11, while the 2012 re-release of Disney’s 101 Dalmatians is at 14. Boardwalk Empire – Second Season (15), REC – Genesis (28) and The Big Bang Theory – Seasons 1-5 (36) complete this week’s Top 40.
