Despite tough competition from The Dictator, Marvel Avengers Assemble spends a second week at Number 1 on the Official Video Chart.

Director Joss Whedon’s superhero action flick, which sees Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye team up to battle Loki and defend planet earth from an invasion from the Chitauri, became the second fastest-selling DVD and Blu-ray release of 2012 so far. And with sales now over 900,000 copies, it is also the second biggest selling video title of 2012 (The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn Part 1 retains the top spot with sales of over 1.3 million copies).

Ali G and Borat creator Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest character The Dictator, AKA Admiral General Aladeen, enters the Official Video Chart at Number 2. Director Gareth Evans’ acclaimed martial arts action thriller, The Raid, debuts at Number 3, while Joss Whedon scoreshis second Top 5 smash of 2012 with horror flick The Cabin In The Woods new in at Number 4. The Hunger Games (5) completes this week’s Top 5.

New Entries

In addition to The Dictator (Number 2), The Raid (3) and The Cabin In The Woods (4), there are five other new entries in the Official Video Chart Top 40.

Ken Loach’s Scottish comedy drama, The Angel’s Share narrowly misses out on the Top 10, debuting at Number 11, while the 50th anniversary James Bond collection, Bond 50, is new in at Number 23.

Mel Gibson’s How I Spent My Summer Vacation (not to be confused with the 1997 romcom of the same name) debuts at Number 24. The Resident Evil Collection (26) and Fringe Season 4 (27) complete this week’s new entries.
