Tempah and Goulding top Official charts

Ellie Goulding and Tinie Tempah have both confirmed their arrival as a new British stars on the music scene, by topping the Official Album and Singles Charts respectively today.

The Official Charts Company can confirm that Goulding’s debut release, Lights, has pipped Lady Gaga’s The Fame to top the Official chart. The success comes after Goulding won the Ciritcs Choice Award at The Brits, after also coming top of the BBC Sound Of 2010 poll. Other high new entries include Jason Derulo’s self-titled album at number 8 and John Barrowman by John Barrowman at 11.

In turn, Tinie Tempah’s single Pass Out tops the singles chart ahead of Rihanna’s Rude Boy, to confirm his rapid rise as one of the rising stars of the South London hip hop scene.

Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot says, "Tempah and Goulding could not be more different musically, but they demonstrate the breadth of British musical talent in 2010."
