Drake’s Scorpion makes its mark on the Official Irish Albums Chart today as the record to topple juggernaut The Greatest Showman from the top spot.

Scorpion, Drake’s fifth album, is the Canadian rapper’s first Number 1 in Ireland, his previous mixtape project More Life peaked at Number 2.

Scorpion broke global one-day streaming records earlier this week when the album dropped. The album was streamed 170 million times on Apple Music worldwide over the weekend, more than doubling the star's one-day streaming record set by 2017’s More Life. The record also outperforms this week’s runner-up by two copies to one.

A new entry from Florence and the Machine, High as Hope, commands attention in the second spot, while The Greatest Showman, the hit musical’s Motion Picture Cast Recording, drops to Number 3 after a giant fifteen weeks of chart domination.

Meanwhile, Picture This drop from 3 to 11 with their self-titled debut and it’s a stand-still for Christy Moore’s On the Road, which retains its 17th place on the albums chart.

New entries and high climbers

In a seismic week of new entries, Florence and the Machine, Drake, Gorillaz and Guns N’ Roses all make the Top 10.

Gorillaz enter at Number 4 with their sixth studio album The Now Now, while Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite for Destruction arrives back in the Top 10 at Number 10 following a remaster of the 1987 classic.

Further down, jazz artist John Coltrane’s ‘lost album’ Both Directions at Once is a new entry at Number 37.

Ed Sheeran’s X climbs from 16 to 14 and George Ezra’s debut Wanted On Voyage rises from 36 to Number 29 following the chart success of his new single and album.

5 Seconds of Summer’s Youngblood and Panic! At the Disco’s Pray for the Wicked have both slid backwards this week. Youngblood falls from 11 to Number 19, and Panic’s Pray for the Wicked falls from 7 to Number 20.
