Robbie Williams on course for Official Charts Number 1 double!

By Dan Lane

In a return run of form Robbie Williams looks set to be Number 1 on both the Official Singles Chart AND the Official Albums Chart, according to today’s Official Chart Update.

The Stoke born singer, who equalled his Take That bandmate Gary Barlow’s career tally of 14 Number 1 singles this past Sunday with Candy, looks set to hold on to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart for a second week, while his ninth studio album, Take The Crown, is on course to debut at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.

Despite scoring six of the UK’s 100 biggest selling albums, this is only the second time Robbie has achieved such a feat. The last time he did the Official Charts double was back in December 2001 when Something Stupid, his re-working of Carson And Gaile’s 1967 classic track, hit the top spot during his easy listening covers album Swing When You’re Winning ‘s seven week stand at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.

“I'm re-energised and it's called Take The Crown for that reason!” Robbie told BBC Radio 1. “I want to take on the world, I want to be a top pop star, and I want to dominate the charts!"

If Take The Crown can hold onto its lead though to Sunday, it will be Robbie’s tenth Number 1 album, and 12th Top 10 album overall (including his 2003 live album, Live At Knebworth, and his two Best Of collections - 2004’s Greatest Hits and 2010’s In And Out Of Consciousness).

Official Singles Chart New Entries and High Climbers

The Wanted are poised to score this week’s highest new entry with I Found You (Number 3). It will be the British boyband’s seventh Top 5 single to date. 2011 X Factor semi-finalist Misha B is on course for her highest charting single to date with Do You Think of Me new in at Number 6. Rita Ora’s Shine Ya Light is up 39 places to Number 8 following her performance on Sunday’s X Factor results show, while DJ and producer Nick Douwma, AKA Sub Focus, is on course for his highest charting single to date with Tidal Wave set to debut at Number 10.

Christina Aguilera, whose last Official Singles Chart appearance was guesting on the second biggest selling single of last year - Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger, is at Number 14 today with Your Body. Jason Mraz’s I Won’t Give Up (17) and Beyonce’s Listen (27) are both looking to re-enter the Official Singles Chart Top 40 on Sunday following recently-evicted Kye Sones’ and Jahmene Douglas’ respective performances on this weekend’s X Factor shows, while Sneakbo is at Number 35 today with his Beenie Man inspired track, Zim Zimma. It will be the South London MC’s first solo Top 40 hit (he previously guested on D’Banj’s Oliver Twist, which reached Number 9 in May of this year).
