US-Barbadian superstar Rihanna storms to the summit of the Official Singles Chart this week to claim her sixth UK Number 1 with ‘We Found Love’ ft. Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris clocking up sales of over 87,000 in just four days!

‘We Found Love’ was released just last Wednesday (October 5) but, despite conceding a three-day sales advantage to its rivals, was already one of the week’s three best-selling singles by midnight Thursday and was unassailable by the end of the week.

Rihanna has now scored a phenomenal six Official Singles Chart Number 1s in five consecutive years, a record unequalled by any other female solo artist. In January this year, she became the first female solo artist to score five Official Singles Chart Number 1s in five consecutive years (for male solo artists, Elvis Presley holds the record of fourteen Number Ones over seven consecutive years from 1957 to 1963).

‘We Found Love’ follows Rihanna’s previous Number 1s ‘What’s My Name’ (Jan, 2011), ‘Only Girl (In The World)’ (2010), ‘Run This Town’ (2009), ‘Take A Bow’ (2008) and ‘Umbrella’ (2007).  Rihanna has also scored four Top 10 Albums including the Number 1s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ (2008) and ‘Loud’ (2010).  Rihanna is set to release her sixth studio album next month.

The only other new entry in this week’s Official Singles Top 10 is electro hip-hop duo LMFAO’s ‘Sexy And I Know It’ which climbs from last week’s Number 20 to this week’ Number 7 having made its chart debut at Number 60 some 12 weeks ago.

In the Official Albums Chart, James Morrison holds at Number One for a second week with ‘The Awakening’ despite strong competition early in the week from Surrey rockers You Me At Six who took top spot in the Official Chart Update on Wednesday. Winners of the Best British Band at this year’s Kerrang! Awards, You Me At Six nevertheless score a personal best with their third studio album ‘Sinners Never Sleep’, this week’s highest new entry at Number 3.

The Official Albums Top 10 sees two other new entries this week; multi-Grammy award winners and country superstar group Lady Antebellum are straight in at Number 4 with ‘Own The Night’ which follows their previous highest Official Albums Charts placing of Number 8 with last year’s ‘Need You Now’ and 24-year-old burgeoning singer/songwriter Ben Howard, who hails from Devon, sees his debut album ‘Every Kingdom’ straight in at Number 7.  Legendary crooner Tony Bennett re-enters the Top 10 with the album ‘Duets II’ at Number 9, up from last week’s 15, having made its chart debut three weeks ago at Number 5.
