Every week we ask you to nominate a new song for our Pop Gem Hall Of Fame – either an overlooked classic or huge hit from yesteryear that needs some more recognition.

This week we were dimming the lights, putting some bubbly on ice and buying a box of your favourite chocolates – yes, it's Valentine's Day. Our theme was SONGS ABOUT LOVE – they could be romantic ballads or euphoric bangers, so long as there was love at its heart.

Of course, there was room for only 10 in the shortlist, and here's who we went for.

Who would you have picked? Sugababes? Really? What a coincidence! Us too!

Watch the video for Too Lost In You – featuring the Sugababes inconsiderately walking very slowly in an airport when people clearly have flights to catch – before we tell you why we chose it and look back at the Sugababes' chart history.

Why it had to be Sugababes

There's been lineup changes, switches in sound and a hairstyle portfolio that Madonna would be proud of, but Sugababes have always been consistent when it came to releasing brilliant singles. And with buzz around the original lineup building again thanks to rumours of an imminent return, it seems there's always room for a bit of Sugababes in our lives.

Too Lost In You was the second single from the group's third album Three, and followed Number 1 hit Hole In The Head. Released in Christmas Number 1 week, the song had a lot of competition, but it still gave the group another Top 10. The track was taken from huge hit movie Love Actually, starring big names including Hugh Grant and Keira Knightley, and sold over 200,000 copies.

The song's a bit of an odd one as while it is a love song about two people who are mad about each other, there's such high drama and emotion it almost sounds as if this couple could do with a breather. But isn't that what all true love is like?

Sugababes' chart history

Sugababes have a big part to play in pop history, with 25 Top 40 hits, including 18 Top 10s, of which six reached Number 1: Freak Like Me (2002), Round Round (2002), Hole In The Head (2003), Push The Button (2005), Walk This Way (2007, with Girls Aloud) and About You Now (2007). Their first hit was Overload, which reached Number 6 in 2000.

Over the course of a decade, six of the band’s eight albums went Top 10 on the Official Albums Chart, and two made it all the way to Number 1. Their best selling single is 2007’s About You Now, which topped the charts for four weeks for the band’s third line-up of Keisha, Heidi and Amelle.

When Keisha departed in 2009, the band recruited talented Eurovision Song Contest star Jade Ewen, before that lineup took a break to concentrate on their own projects the following year.

Former Sugababes Mutya and Keisha regrouped with original member Siobhan to form – yes, you’ve guessed it – Mutya Keisha Siobhan. They released a single Flatline in 2013, which missed the Top 40 but was crowned a Pop Gem for being the unsung hero of that year.

Mutya has confirmed on Twitter that the original lineup will be returning, although there's no firm date.

Many have their favourite line-ups or loyalties to certain members, but the Sugababes story isn’t complete without all six – Mutya, Keisha, Siobhan, Heidi, Amelle and Jade, we salute you.
