Hold on to your (red) hats; Peru's politest bear - Paddington - has hit a massive milestone with his latest DVD.

The Official Charts Compnay can confirm that the family comedy has passed one million DVD/Blu-ray sales - and is the first to reach the feat in 2015.

The news comes after the release was announced the fastest-selling of the year so far back in March, shifting 423,600 copies in its opening week. The DVD is also the biggest-selling of 2015 so far (see the full Official Top 40 list here)

The film's writer/director Paul King said: "Paddington came to London hoping to find a warm welcome and a loving home. It’s beyond all our wildest dreams that his story has found its way into a million homes around the country.

"It was a labour of love to bring it to the screen and we’re so pleased it has had such a generous response.”

Released in cinemas in November 2014, STUDIOCANAL's Paddington took a massive £37,878,025 at the UK box office and the figure currently stands at $263 million worldwide, with Japan still to release the film in early 2016.

STUDIOCANAL UK CEO Danny Perkins added: "We have had the most wonderful experience with Paddington and have tried our best to look after this very special bear and fantastic film. To see Paddington embraced by UK cinema audiences and now welcomed into more than a million homes is truly awe inspiring."

Sales of Paddington are expected to grow even more heading into Christmas with a limited edition DVD release featuring 3D sleeve artwork available from October 12.
