Owl City Notches Up Another Number One

American synth-pop act Owl City, aka twenty-year-old Adam Young from Minnesota, has the UK’s new number one on the Official Singles Chart this week with Fireflies, a track which has already dominated charts around the world, the Official Charts Company confirms today.
Fireflies is taken off Owl City’s third album and major label debut Ocean Eyes.  The track, which is Owl City’s first ever UK hit, entered the Official Singles Chart three weeks ago at number fifty and by last week at climbed to number two before clinching the top spot today.
Fireflies, which reached Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 and went platinum in America last year, has also topped the charts in Australia, Denmark, Holland and Ireland and been Top 20 in nine other territories. 

 
There are two new entries into this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 10: Example’s Won’t Go Quietly is new in at number six and JLS’s One Shot is new at number ten having climbed from number thirty two.
In the Official Albums Chart, Florence And The Machine’s debut album Lungs is number one for a second consecutive week.
There are two new entries in the Official Albums Chart Top 10.  Welsh rock sextet Lostprophets are straight in at number three with their fourth studio album The Betrayed. And fifteen-year-old Canadian soul-singing protégé Justin Bieber is straight in at number four with his debut album My World.
