One Direction look set to knock Robbie William’s Swing Both Ways from the top of the Official Albums Chart this weekend with Midnight Memories.

After performing at the American Music Awards and Children In Need, the boys’ third album in as many years is set to become their second Number 1, and the fastest selling album of the year to boot, already having shifted an astonishing 145,000 in its first three days of sale.

According to the Official Chart Company’s latest sales data, Midnight Memories is currently outselling Gary Barlow’s Since I Saw You Last (Number 2) by almost three copies to one. Midnight Memories is also outselling every other artist in the Top 5 combined.

If One Direction’s sales continue at this pace, come Sunday it will make Midnight Memories the fastest selling album of the year; the current title holder is Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories (165,000 copies first week).

Robbie WilliamsSwings Both Ways, which was the UK’s 1,000th Official Number 1 album last week, is down two places to Number 3, while Olly MursRight Place Right Time has shot up a staggering 92 places to Number 4, following the album’s re-release to coincide with his new single Hand On My Heart.

Boyzone’s BZ20, celebrating twenty years since the band formed, is currently sitting at Number 5, completing today’s Official Albums Chart Update Top 5.

New Entries

Susan Boyle’s Home For Christmas has debuted midweek at Number 7 and is on course to be the Britain’s Got Talent star’s fifth Top 10 album.

Mary J Blige’s festive album A Mary Christmas has entered at 22, putting it on track as her 9th album to chart in the UK Top 40, while Dido’s Greatest Hits is riding at Number 28, following on from her Top 5 album Girl Who Got Away in March this year.

A Day To Remember’s Common Courtesy debuts at 34, while Wet Wet Wet are back with Step By Step – The Greatest Hits (36). And finally, Poppy GirlsNo Need To Say Goodbye is at Number 38.
