Music fans wanting to keep updated on every week's race for Number 1 can now so via iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad after the launch today of the Official UK Music Charts application.

The first charts to be revealed through the app will be this Sunday's Christmas charts, which will confirm whether Matt Cardle can beat Rihanna Ft Drake's What’s My Name, as well as Facebook campaign tracks Surfin' Bird by The Trashmen and Cage Against The Machine's 4'33". The winner will be revealed via the app at 7pm this Sunday evening.

From then on, buyers of the apps will be able to keep up to date every week with a range of charts, including the Official Singles Chart, the Official Albums Chart, as well as Official Charts for dance, r&b, rock and independent music.

Following a one-off download of one of the apps, the user will be able to access charts updated every Sunday, as well as being able to listen to a 30 second sample of each track, purchase a download of any chart entry, rate every chart hit and highlight their favourites on their Facebook page.

The apps, which have been built by Noise Inc, also incorporate a stunning user interface, designed to replicate a classic record shop rack, from which you can pull out your favourite releases.

The apps - which are all optimised for wifi use - are available in three different versions:

•iPod Touch/Phone lite - a free app, offering weekly updates of the Singles and Albums Top 10s only.

•iPod Touch/Phone Premium - priced £1.79, this app offers a full range of 8 Official Charts, together with this week’s new releases and full interactive functionality & rating capabilities.

•iPad – this top-range app offers the full range of functionality, in addition to a brand new Official Buzz Chart (compiled from the ratings given by application users), as well as a richer visual experience. This app will be priced £2.99.

The three new apps replace the old iPhone app, which was launch 20 months ago, during which time it has ranked among the Top 10 music apps available on the iTunes App Store.

Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot says, "Our initial application has proven very popular over the past couple of years. But our new apps take the chart experience to another level, offering a nostalgic record shop experience directly from your iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad.

“For anyone looking to keep abreast of the latest hits - and sample them for themselves - in the main Official Charts, but also various of our Official genre charts, these apps are a must."
