Official Charts Advent Calendar 2012: Day 5

The countdown to Christmas and New Year has begun, so OfficialCharts.com is celebrating by looking back at all the Number 1s of 2012 with our very own virtual Advent Calendar!

It’s Day 5, so here’s the fifth Official Number 1 single of 2012 (which also spent five weeks at Number 1). It’s Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know FT Kimbra!

Somebody That I Used To Know made it’s Official Singles Chart debut at Number 97, on January 8, before climbing to the top spot six weeks later. It spent a week at Number 1 before being knocked off the summit by DJ Fresh and Rita Ora’s Hot Right Now, only to return to the top of the Official Singles Chart the following week, staying there for another four weeks!

Somebody That I Used To Know sold 83,000 copies the week it went to Number 1 and has sold 1.3 million copies to date. That makes it not only the biggest selling single of 2012 so far, but Somebody That I Used To Know is also one of only 123 tracks to break the million sales barrier in the 60 year history of the Official Singles Chart!
